Full Job Description

The Finance Manager reports to the Director of Finance and plays an essential part in proving effective management of the School's financial functions.

The principle accountability of the role is to oversee the day to day running of the Finance Department (Fee Billing, Credit Control, Purchase Ledger, Payroll, and Cashbooks), supporting the Director of Finance with the management of this important aspect of School management.

The Finance Team has 5 staff (including the Director and Manager) who liaise daily with a variety of stakeholders. The Finance Manager will support budget holders with managing their budgets, including providing monthly budgets reports and highlighting variances where appropriate. With the Director of Finance, they will prepare annual budgets for review and produce the statutory accounts of the School and its subsidiaries and for the Friends of Wellington School. The role will include the reconciliations of accounts including the bank accounts, petty cash and credit card; calculating and processing intercompany recharges and working with the Fees Administrator on debt collection.

The Finance Manager will be responsible for ensuring the School and its subsidiary companies are compliant with the requirements of HMRC (including the completion of VAT and PAYE returns) and will liaise with outside bodies such as auditors and HMRC to ensure compliance with individual requirements.

The Finance Manager will monitor the work of staff within the department, ensuring high standards are maintained alongside providing them with the necessary support, development and advice.

Other key tasks are to review new leases to ensure the correct accounting treatment is applied; calculate and post accruals and prepayments; maintain the fixed asset register; assist with the administration of the Fees in Advance Scheme and completion of ONS/Baines Cutler and other annual surveys.

Whilst previous experience of working in a school environment would be advantageous, it is not essential. Instead, priority will be placed on professionalism, integrity, an eye for detail, high levels organisational skills, a proactive and solutions-oriented attitude and excellent customer service. This full-time all-year around role requires an experienced and organised individual who thrives on getting the job done.
