Full Job Description

Sense has a fantastic opportunity for someone to join our Finance team as our Finance Officer. This is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week, working flexibly between home and our office in Selly Oak, Birmingham.

Sense provides a range of support services for people with complex disabilities including residential, supported living and day services. We are commissioned by over 100 local authorities and clinical commissioning groups across the UK

The finance officer will work as part of the Finance Team to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the organisations financial information through the accurate recording of financial transactions on a timely basis.

The successful candidate will be supporting their line manager and team members to ensure the integrity of the transfer of data from the shop's EPOS system to the SUN accounting system. You will monitor and evaluate financial information systems used operationally and within the finance team suggesting improvement where needed.,

  • To assist with maintaining the prime accounting records including cashbook, purchase ledger, asset register and general ledger.

  • To assist with bank account reconciliations.

  • To assist with the preparation of other reconciliations.

  • To process shop returns as required.

  • To raise queries with shop managers arising from checking of shop returns, escalating to the Finance Business Partner and the Associate Director of Finance, Corporate Reporting and Compliance as appropriate.

  • To assist with the resolution of queries by phone or by email from shop managers as appropriate.

  • To ensure that staff follow all relevant financial procedures, providing advice as required in response to queries.

  • Collate details of Van Collector payments for submission to the Inland Revenue.

    Relevant financial qualification such as AAT, with evidence of own continuing professional development.

  • Proven experience in a finance role with double entry book keeping, preferably within retail accounting and working with EPOS systems.

  • Experience of producing high quality, reliable and complete reconciliation, particularly bank reconciliation.

  • Experience of manipulating large data sets in Microsoft excel.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop relationships with key stakeholders and external agencies, so that objectives are met consistently, and change is introduced successfully.

  • Ability to work to prioritise tasks and to work to tight timelines.

  • Excellent IT skills including advanced Excel skills with ability to use a broad range of functions, such as looks ups and pivot tables.

  • Experience of using computerised finance systems such as Sun.
