Full Job Description

The role of Finance Officer is a key post, with the results of your work driving a lot of the day-to-day running of the school. The successful candidate will be part of a small, dynamic team with a wide ranging array of responsibilities. The Finance Officer position involves supporting the financial operational and management function of the school, and provides a key service to staff, suppliers, customers and parents. The position involves responsibility for the sales and cash ledger, and payroll operational function. You will provide support to budget holders and staff, dealing with queries, and offering guidance and training where required, and working closely with the Finance Assistant. The role also involves responsibility for the developing and maintaining the contracts management and fixed asset registers. Our non-teaching associate staff perform a fundamental role in improving life chances for our young people, so the Finance Officer will be critical in ensuring colleagues are informed, supported and challenged so they can maximise impact of their efforts and support all students to achieve their potential. The details of the post are:

  • Contract status: Permanent
  • Weeks per year: Term Time Only plus 2 weeks (which is 41 weeks a year)
  • Days per week: Monday to Friday
  • Hours per week: 35
  • Shift pattern: 8.15am to 4.15pm with an hour unpaid break
  • Grade: Grade SO1
  • Actual salary: £34,224 to £36,190 (with uplifts for long service and a backdated pay rise once the 2024-25 NJC pay deal is agreed)

  • We need you to be:
  • in possession of excellent organisational skills, with strong problem-solving aptitude
  • highly skilled in the use of ICT office products, involving advanced knowledge of Excel for report generation and analysis of data
  • experienced in payroll function, audit and reconciliation
  • able to demonstrate flexibility in a team situation, and have a good understanding of financial systems and procedures
  • able to work under pressure, use initiative and work independently, and prioritise your workload to meet deadlines
  • able to communicate with a wide range of audiences, including students, parents, clients, professional services and other external agencies
  • in possession of a relevant professional qualification in accounting (eg. AAT level 2 or 3, ACCA) or comparable experience
