Full Job Description

You will ideally be an AAT member, studying towards and have ambitions to be a fully CCAB or CIMA-qualified accountant. You will support the Senior Financial Accountant on a range of technical; compliance and regulatory issues; and financial accounting processes. They are the primary lead in accounting for the organisation's fixed assets : maintaining the fixed asset register; ensuring completeness of documentation; liaising with capital stakeholders; and reporting and delivering routine capital monitoring information to track progress against the capital plan. We are based in Barnsley and we operate on a hybrid working pattern which requires attending the office at least once a week. Main duties In this role you will be responsible for :

  • Undertaking a series of month-end financial accounting tasks involving control accounts, together with the associated preparation and posting of journals to ensure the integrity of financial information and reporting.
  • Maintaining the fixed asset register daily and ensuring the correct accounting treatment of all capital items, liaising with capital stakeholders;
  • reporting and delivering routine capital monitoring information to track progress against the capital plan.
  • Taking the lead in the asset verification exercise, investigating and resolving any discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Providing financial information as required to support in the completion of the Statutory annual accounts and Trust Fund accounts.
  • Ensuring that work is completed within deadlines and that accurate working papers and supporting detailed information is available for external audit inspection.
  • Working independently to agreed objectives, making decisions within broad professional policies requiring minimal advice from manager.
  • You will undertake occasional travel and spend time away from base to meet the requirements of the post (with appropriate prior notice).

  • Knowledge and experience of working in finance in a large and complex organisation.
  • Knowledge of Accounting Standards and the financial control environment.
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards.
  • Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint)., Degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Working towards a professional account qualification (CCAB).
  • Demonstrate commitment to own Continued Professional Development (CPD).
