Financial Controller EMEIA & Americas

The Financial Controller will be responsible for the controllership of the entities within particular regions. This will include:

  • Ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the books for each legal entity

  • Ensuring the accounting for key judgements in financial statements notes/disclosures are appropriate and in line with accounting standard;

  • Co-ordinating review of period close balances and accounts to confirm key adjustments align with business reality / current trading

  • Supporting the management of local statutory accounting and reporting processes, interpreting and applying accounting guidance, providing advice / insight on impact of judgement-based movements on financial position and financial statements

  • Confirming compliance with processes and controls and ensuring consistency with the global accounting policy

  • Supporting stakeholders with the identification, prioritisation and management of the financial risk to the business


  • The Financial Controller will also manage a team who will support with the above Controllership activities and closely business partner with key stakeholders including Commercial and Group Finance on the aforementioned points. In addition to their own team, the Financial Controller will also interact with the RTR CoE and provide controllership guidance as necessary.

    The Financial Controller will be required to lead through change, effectively guiding the team through change and addressing challenges which may arise. The Financial Controller will provide clear direction to their team, and the wider RTR team, communicating clearly and authentically to create a shared vision for the entire team.,
  • Manages and directly leads the Controllership team and indirectly the associated RTR CoE resource, plus any outsourced providers, that provide RTR services and ensuring timely, accurate and cost-effective delivery.

  • Develops team members through coaching and providing guidance, roll modelling the desired technical, leadership and business partnering skills expected from RTR.

  • Ensures compliance with Group Policies, and supports relevant internal controls over financial reporting.

  • Responsible for ensuring all in scope regulatory submissions are completed accurately and in accordance with legal deadlines.

  • Manages internal stakeholders and accompanying change management programmes to ensure that successful service delivery is ongoing.

  • Technical subject matter expert for issues relating to responsible entities.

  • Role may require work on weekends/public holidays at half year and year end.

  • Sets future process and service direction and alignment to BBS customer and business strategies.

  • Applies understanding of assigned business process to feed into process to identify gaps and propose continuous improvement measures.

  • Works closely with other BBS management process owners and team leads to understand root causes and represent process procedures, practicalities and exceptions.

  • Proactively seeks feedback and uses this to inform future delivery of services. Works with other functions to leverage potential upgrades or consolidate shared systems and processes.

  • Ensures a full set of documented policies, procedures, process maps and controls is maintained for associated RTR processes.

    Professional accounting qualification is required e.g. ACA, CA, ACCA, CIMA or CPA.

  • SAP and BPC experience, and advanced Excel skills, an advantage.

  • Experience leading and/or building a team in a Shared Service environment preferred.

  • Strong accounting and leadership experience (preferably at least 10 years) within Shared Services and RTR, delivering against targets.

  • Proven experience in managing RTR teams, including history of hiring, training, motivating and retaining personnel. Can provide examples of effective leadership and getting the best out of people, including during demanding and unsettling periods of change.

  • Experience of leading multi-work stream and change management projects preferred. Must be able to fully grasp the broader issues and provide functional guidance to those reporting to them, rather than rely on their own technical skill set.

  • Has track record and appetite for delivering continuous improvement. Can provide examples of having led local changes as a means of reflecting strategic-level changes. Able to generate commitment to change amongst own team.

  • Has built strong and sustainable relationships with a range of external stakeholders and influenced them effectively. Can provide evidence of working collaboratively with peers.

  • Strong technical and compliance background with experience in a FTSE company applying IFRS. US GAAP experience is a plus.

  • Uses a variety of techniques to influence a range of internal and external, technical and non-technical stakeholders, across a range of strategic-level issues. Able to establish personal credibility at all levels. Has strong negotiation skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills especially stakeholder management.

  • Builds effective relationships through interpersonal skill and technical expertise to aid cross-functional working, delivery and a sense of collaboration and teamwork. Proactively asks for and acts on personal feedback, developing a high level of self-awareness.

  • Can operate both at the strategic and, where required, detailed level. Displays an affinity for technology's ability to drive efficiencies and enhance service delivery. Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities and operational demands.

  • Thinks conceptually and identifies and addresses future challenges and opportunities, often in an ambiguous environment. Needs to be comfortable in 'dealing with the numbers' - i.e. able to extract strategic themes and trends, compare and convert figures across the group and use high-level figures to make decisions
