Job Title: Financial Guidance CoordinatorGrade: 5Responsible to: Financial Guidance Team LeaderOverall PurposeThe post holder will be responsible for offering specialised information and guidance to students inrelation to student funding as well as the assessment and allocation of university financial assistancefunds.This includes providing information about the types and levels of funding available to prospectivestudents during University Open Days and Discovery days, supporting new students through thefunding application process as well as offering support to current students during their studies. Thisservice operates primarily through a mixture of confidential drop-in sessions on campus, as well asoffering information and signposting via email and telephone.The purpose of this post is to enhance the level of support offered to students to ensure an excellentstudent experience at the University of Northampton.Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • To develop a thorough understanding of all aspects of appropriate statutory student funding
  • guidance, including eligibility criteria (i.e. residency, previous study, ELQ, etc.) and the process of applying for student funding in order to answer student queries.
  • To become familiar with and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the range of financial
  • support available to students from the various funding bodies, including student loans, grants, bursaries and scholarships. To develop and maintain an understanding of the assessment process for these funds in order to deal with queries from students.
  • To liaise with appropriate external groups and organisations as necessary, including regional
  • funding bodies such as Student Finance England, the NHS and the local Citizens Advice on behalf of the student when discussing their complex issues such as a change in circumstances.
  • To utilise knowledge of student finance to resolve complex funding issues with students. This
  • may also include acting as the student's representative when contacting statutory funding bodies as well as making referrals to other specialist university support teams, the Student Union and external organisations.
  • To carry out the assessment of the Financial Assistance Fund and to contribute to the
  • administration and allocation of university funds, including the allocation of short-term loans.
  • To liaise with the Finance Office, and Academic and Professional Services staff across the
  • University in relation to student funding matters and to provide any necessary staff training and development when required.
  • To develop and maintain effective working relationships within the university and with relevant
  • external agencies.
  • To work on the development and promotion of events and campaigns around student funding,
  • budgeting and money management which support student engagement and retention. This includes the introduction and development of initiatives to promote financial capability for students.,
  • To ensure the delivery of high quality information and guidance in relation to student funding
  • matters to prospective and current students to maintain an ethos of high quality customer service to enhance the student experience.,
  • To assist with the organisation and delivery of the busy drop-in service, answer telephone and
  • email enquiries.
  • To produce letters, keep up-to-date records and maintain spreadsheets and other documents
  • as required
  • To represent the Financial Guidance team on relevant internal working groups and with
  • relevant external agencies, such as NASMA in order to network and share best practice and contribute to raising the profile of the team.
  • To represent the Financial Guidance team at University Open Days, Discovery Days and other
  • promotional events.
  • To undertake any duties within the Financial Guidance team as are necessary to maintain the
  • delivery of the services, and such other duties as reasonably requested.
  • The post holder will be expected to undertake other responsibilities and tasks as reasonably
  • requested by the Team Leader/Head of Student Services.
  • The post holder will be responsible and accountable for ensuring all employment legislative
