Full Job Description

  • Oversee/review the design for all the Fire Protection projects generated within the PGIS teams. Participate on projects with other design groups within AtkinsRéalis.
  • Ensure the Fire Protection designs meet AtkinsRéalis high design standards.
  • Sign and seal all engineering documents for the fire protection design.
  • Be highly motivated, constantly seek improvement in how we do things, and be willing to take on new challenges.
  • Manage multiple projects immediately, including developing proposals, project planning, staffing, and successful delivery of projects both through independent work and engaging other AtkinsRéalis colleagues.
  • Cultivate working relationships with project managers, project teams, AtkinsRéalis colleagues, and other clients.
  • Effectively network with other fire and life safety industry professionals.
  • Develop thorough and clear Design Analysis, Summary of Code Requirements and Life Safety Plans, and accurate Reports.
  • Provide planning and design details including engineering concepts, distribution plans, riser diagrams, detail drawings, schedules, specifications, design analysis, and engineering reports.
  • Conduct occasional on-site project observations and reviews; duties required to fulfill contractual obligations for construction phase services; overseeing other personnel assigned to this responsibility.
  • Coordinate with architectural, electrical, process piping and structural disciplines.
  • Complete Quality Management Training and comply with the program upholding a commitment to a culture of quality in all aspects of work.

    The successful candidate will have a minimum 15 years of experience designing fire protection systems.
  • This person will be licensed as a professional engineer. A plus would be licensed as a fire protection engineer, having passed the NCEES exam for fire protection specifically.
  • A solid background designing automatic sprinkler systems, standpipes, fire pumps, foam and clean agent systems and writing the specifications for these systems is required.
  • Must be capable of writing specifications.
  • A solid understanding of the International Building Code, FM Global requirements, and The NFPA codes.
  • Experience managing a team is a plus.
  • Proficient in Excel and Word.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit is a plus.
