Firefighter (Hazardous Materials Technician) - If you are a dedicated and skilled individual with a passion for excellence, we invite you to join our team at the United States Air Force, 423rd Civil Engineering Squadron, RAF Alconbury/Molesworth We are looking for someone with knowledge and experience of Firefighting to serve as a Firefighter assigned to a crew engaged in structural firefighting, rescue, and Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Technician, to drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity, and to respond to the presence or potential releases of hazardous materials for the purpose of stopping or controlling the release. Our team is dedicated to excellence, innovation, and the highest standards of operational readiness., You will be responsible for performing hazard and risk assessment and conducting a complete incident analysis. You will drive and operate firefighting vehicles, such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicles, and maintain firefighting equipment and fire station facilities. You will perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities, which may include large multistoried buildings, industrial areas, and/or base storage facilities. In addition, you will perform rescue of personnel and a variety of first aid measures to alleviate further injury and prepare the victim(s) for transport to a medical facility. You will be required to comply with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment. Your hours of work will be 192 hours over a 4-week period on a rotating 24-hour shift, where start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with the organization's flexible working policies. This position is considered operational; therefore, you are entitled to receive Operational Firefighter Pay Supplement for working an approved USAFE "as rostered" shift pattern. The shift pattern will comprise of 24-hour shifts generally 48-hour work weeks, which may include weekends and public holidays., You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential. You will be required to complete a 12-month probationary period. Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent. You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. You must participate in a mandatory physical fitness program and pass a pre-employment and annual physicals. The position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. You are required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management. Management will assign work schedule based on needs of organization. You will be subject to recall. This is a Testing Designated Position. You may be subject to random drug testing for this role. This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program. You may be required to work the Fire Alarm and Communications Center. You will be required to be certified by the Department of Defense Firefighter Certification System as Firefighter II (includes Firefighter I), HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operations, HAZMAT Technician, Apparatus Driver Operator - Pumper, Apparatus Driver Operator- Aerial
- , Apparatus Driver Operator- Mobile Water Supply, within 24 months of being appointed to the positions. Failure to complete the required certifications within the 24-month period due to your own negligence will result in separation from the position. If failure to obtain certifications is due to circumstances outside your control, management will work with you to satisfy the requirements within a reasonable timeframe. You may be required to substitute for Crew Chief for one shift absences, if certified at this level. You will be designated as a mission essential employee for reduced operations during inclement weather. Employees assigned to this position report for work as scheduled. This is a Primary operations position; UK retirement rules apply. There is a mandatory retirement age of 60 years for firefighters hired under the Local National Direct Hire Program. All successful applicants will require a security clearance and a right to work in the UK.

You will have knowledge of how to drive and operate firefighting vehicles of significant complexity; and of the principles of hydraulics as they pertain to water flow, water pressure, water levels, line (friction) losses, etc. You will also have a knowledge of basic and specialized structural firefighting equipment (fire alarm system operation, fire extinguishing equipment operation, etc.), techniques, and procedures, and of basic and specialized building design, construction, and occupancy and knowledge of hazardous materials emergency response procedures, equipment, identification, and mitigation actions. In addition, you will have knowledge of emergency first aid techniques; and safety requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations, and/or technical orders. You will have skill in operating communications equipment and the ability to maintain good working relations; to communicate orally and in writing; and to lift and carry heavy loads; and to conduct complete HAZMAT incident analysis; and to apply emergency first aid techniques.
