Full Job Description
You will serve as a Firefighter assigned to a crew engaged in structural firefighting, rescue, and Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT)
response where there is a presence or potential releases of hazardous materials for the purpose of mitigating or controlling the release.
You will provide on-scene logistical and administrative support for the full spectrum of emergency incidents to include hazardous
materials spills/leaks, auto accidents, structural fires, medical emergencies and technical rescue scenes. Performs logistical and
administrative support functions as requested by the Fire Chief, Senior Fire Officer, the Fire Emergency Support Functional Officer
(ESF), or Incident Commander. You will serve as the Emergency Service Function (ESF) representative, respond to and function as the
fire department representative to the Emergency Operations Team (EOT) director during large and/or complex emergencies,

Other significant facts pertaining to this position are:
1. Employee must participate in a mandatory physical fitness program.
2. Employee is required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management. Will be required to wear NFPA
compliant uniforms.
3. This position is considered operational; therefore the incumbent is entitled to receive Operational Firefighter Pay
Supplement for working an approved USAFE "as rostered" shift pattern. The shift pattern will total 192 hours every
month, comprised of24-hour shifts generally 48-hour work weeks, which may include weekends and public holidays.
Management will assign work schedule based on needs of organization. Employee will be subject to recall.
4. This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory
protection program and hearing conservation program.
5. The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required.
6. Must be able to operate radio equipment in the station, vehicles and portables. May be required to work the Emergency
Communications Center (ECC).
7. Employee is required to be certified by the Department of Defense (DoD) Firefighter Certification System as Firefighter II
(includes Firefighter I), HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operations, and Fire Inspector I & II within 18 months of being
appointed to the position. In addition will be required to be certified to the Telecommunicator 1/11, Rescue Technician
level after initial certification listed above. Will attend any other formal and/or correspondence courses as required and
determined by guidelines and the Fire Chief. Failure to complete the required certifications within the 18 month period due
to employee negligence will result in separation from the position. If failure to obtain certifications is due to circumstances
outside the employee's control, management will work with the employee to satisfy the requirements within a reasonable
time frame.
8. Will obtain and maintain current National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) Certification. The fire
department will facilitate the necessary training dates to accomplish certification once hired.
9. Annual occupational medical examination is required, to include blood tests.
10. The incumbent of this position is designated as a mission essential employee for reduced operations during inclement
weather. Employees assigned to this position report for work as scheduled.

4. Skill in operating communications equipment.
5. Ability to maintain good working relations; to communicate orally and in writing in an accurate and articulate
manner.
6. Ability to conduct Fire Prevention fire safety inspections, and knowledge of all aspects of record keeping ensuring
compliance with current Fire Safety Codes.
