Full Job Description

This Fitter (Construction) will report to the Chatham Region Lead Operational Engineer and will work within UKPN Services - Chatham Depot based in our Chatham Depot office. You will be a Permanent employee., You will maintain the HV and LV electrical plant and distribution network, up to and including 11KV system, with the opportunity to develop the skills to work on the 33KV network., Responsible for all aspects of Safety, Health and Environment relevant to this role
Carry out risk assessments and maintain safe working practices
Maintain electrical plant and equipment on the LV and 11KV network
Undertake substation inspections to a high standard
Installation/construction of new substations with associated High Voltage switchgear & transformers
Report hazards and defects that they are unable to rectify through the appropriate reporting procedure
Ensure quality of works meets with current policies and procedures
Be an ambassador for us and deliver excellent customer service
Be able to work on their own or as part of a team

NATURE AND SCOPE:

This position has been classified as a Specified Role and will be subject to pre-appointment drug screening in accordance with the UK Power Networks policy on "Alcohol & Drugs".

You will be expected to work as part of a team of technicians, jointers and fitters that report to the Maintenance Manager and have the support of experienced Lead and Operational Engineers.

The role is predominantly based in the UK Power Networks Services area with work being undertaken on customer owned sites on a contractual basis. The successful candidate will also be required to travel and work anywhere within the UK on customer owned sites., Managers and supervisors carry both legal and company responsibilities for ensuring the health and safety of their employees, those under their control and those who might be affected by the work undertaken, i.e. public, visitors and employees of other organisations. This includes briefing individuals working for them and ensuring there is the necessary understanding, competence and application of requirements to work safely and without harming the environment.

Employees will ensure they understand the health and safety risks involved in their work activities and their responsibility to apply the controls needed to manage those risks to acceptable levels. Similarly where work activities can have an adverse impact upon the environment, and where there are legal requirements, employees will understand those impacts and the controls they must ensure are applied.

Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.

ONC in electrical power or City & Guilds Part 232 (or equivalent)

Electrical apprenticeship in a power distribution (or similar) company

Be able to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the electrical distribution network

Experience in maintenance and testing of HV and LV assets

Hold a current driving licence

You will attract a salary of £43,898 plus Van plus benefits and a bonus of 3%.

If you are successful, you will need to undertake a medical and DBS reference check
