Please note that this vacancy may be withdrawn at any time should it be filled via the internal redeployment process, The candidate is expected to be on the medical on call rota and will be involved in management of acutely unwell general medical patients admitted through A&E and AMU under supervision of medical Consultant. The IM3 role is envisaged as a junior registrar role, and thus senior within the on call and ward teams.

Unscheduled Care/General Medicine Fixed Term Appointment for a Senior Clinical Fellow based in Acute Medicine Royal Gwent Hospital with General medicine on-call commitments base in GUH. The successful candidate will be expected to provide high quality care with the support of the ward team to ensure excellent clinical outcome. There will be opportunities, where possible, to participate in delivery of subspecialty medicine, on negotiation with the successful candidate.

The Acute Medical Unit is part of the busiest network of AMUs in Wales, with an average total of 130-150 new admissions in 24 hours across the whole health board, of which half are discharged the same day. The Royal Gwent hospital sees between thirty and fifty of these patients in a day, and specialises in the care of 'ambulatory' or SDEC sensitive conditions, and the care of frail elders. The post holder will be part of a large medical and multidisciplinary team working under direct consultant supervision, who are well established RCP trainers. There is a team of ANPs and PAs, and close links with the medical specialties in the new Grange University Hospital, as well as inreach from Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, social work, and Old Age Psychiatry. This post will join a full team of junior doctors (F2, IMT1, IMT2, registrar) as well as ANPs, and a team of 9 Acute Physicians who cover the unit on a rolling basis., Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is a multi-award-winning NHS organisation with a passion for caring.
