Full Job Description

Applications are invited for an enthusiastic, dedicated colleague to join the team. The post holder will support general nephrology activity, AKI management and 7 day working. In addition, the post-holder will have responsibility for the haemodialysis patients at the Boston haemodialysis unit. However, the job plan is provisional and the post-holder would be expected to work with the existing consultants to enhance services across Lincolnshire., In addition, he / she will be required to:

  • Undertake such other duties as may be identified to meet the needs of the service
  • To provide cover for colleagues during periods of absence
  • To attend regularly nephrology department team meetings.
  • Clinical supervision of trainees
  • Have continuing responsibility for patients in his / her care and for the proper functioning of the department of nephrology.
  • Attend renal biopsy meeting, clinical meeting and consultant network meeting.
  • Take part in team, department, regional and national audits.
  • If a significant research interest develops then an early job plan review can be conducted to assess this.
  • Participate in ongoing development of the nephrology service.
  • Participate in the nephrologist of the week
  • Participate in on call service for nephrology at Lincoln County Hospital (1 in 6 rota). The renal on call involves predictable on call 1PA and is predominantly involved in weekend cover with a ward round on Saturday and Sunday and involves on site work between 8am and 2pm on Saturday and Sunday. Unpredictable on call is 0.2PAs per week and predominantly telephone advice from home.

Many local general practitioners are known personally to the consultant staff and are met at postgraduate meetings and elsewhere. The Trust's management structure is based on 4 Divisions (Medicine, Surgery, Clinical Support Services and Women & Children's Health), that span the Trust. Renal Services sit within the Medicine Division as part of the Cardiovascular Clinical Business Unit. The Clinical Business Unit is led by four specialty leads, working alongside a Deputy General Manager and a Lead Nurse. The trust will play a key role in developing doctors of the future in partnership with the new University of Lincoln medical school.
