Full Job Description

THIS ROLE WILL BE BASED OUT OF STONEBRIDGE COVERING ALL AREAS WITHIN SURREY. The role includes a £50 monthly tool allowance. Are you interested in supporting operational policing, working independently with a wide variety of vehicles and joining a great team? Joint Transport Services (JTS) is at the forefront of operational policing support, we ensure that our policing colleagues have vehicles and equipment to help them respond to crime safely and efficiently and keep our communities safe. Providing local support for operational teams and departments, Fleet Assistants liaise between the 4 JTS Workshop and Front line Units to ensure that all vehicle repairs and maintenance are carried out in a timely and efficient manner. A vital part of your role will be liaising and coordinating with operational teams, the local workshop or agreed third party providers to book and deliver vehicles for maintenance / repair. This may be driving the vehicles themselves, or when necessary, loading and driving 26t and 7.5t car transporters to various locations. To make sure that this is carried out in a timely manner you will also manage the local vehicle servicing plan on our fleet management system. In supporting the vehicle users you will need to build relationships with your operational policing colleagues to make them aware of the necessary checks that they will need to make to safely use the vehicles. You will also act as an escalation point for any issues that are identified by the vehicle users. You will be carrying out minor repairs yourself, if a third party is involved you will be preparing the vehicle (including policing equipment removal) and checking that third party repairs are completed and recorded appropriately. Once repairs and services are complete you will also ensure that vehicles are stocked with appropriate supplies and equipment, and maintain local stores of some of these items. Recording and monitoring both the vehicles and the usage of our fleet is also an essential art of the role. You will enable this by acting as a 'super user' of the vehicle telemetry and CCTV system and assisting the Driver & Vehicle Management System team as the local liaison with the Divisional Management Team. You will also need to maintain specific records for the vehicles such as work orders and logbooks. You will also carry out weekly inspections of allocated bulk fuel equipment and refuelling areas. And, as needed, supervise bulk fuel deliveries at locations across Surrey & Sussex.

Current full UK Manual Driving Licence category B. You cannot have more than 6 points on your licence. (An LGV C licence would be desirable but training could be offered to support the right candidate in attaining this.) Competence with IT office solutions such as Microsoft word and excel. Preferably a working knowledge of a Fleet management system, although this is not essential on application. Some vehicle maintenance experience is required, although specific training will be offered, for example knowledge and skills to replace various components such as wheels, and wiper blades. Ideally you will have knowledge of H&S regulations which include, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) 1998, Lifting Operation and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) & Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulation (PUWER) 1998. Educated to GCSE level standard (or equivalent) Good level of technical ability (Vehicle Technology NVQ level 1 or equivalent) Well evidenced organisation skills with the ability to continually prioritise own workload and work to strict timescales.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.Chief Constables' Message We really welcome your interest in joining our Police Force.
