Full Job Description

You will be supporting the shift based Portering Team, providing 24hr Portering support to all wards and departments across the site. The ideal candidate will live within 30 minutes travelling time to the hospital site. Please ensure you read the Job Description and Personal Specification, as all applications will be scored against the required criteria. Training will be provided for successful candidates. Please note that this post is subject to a 6 month probationary period. If you currently hold a contract of employment with the Oxford University Hospitals, this will not apply. The Horton General Hospital, Banbury is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Portering team as a Flexible Hours Shift Porter., The ideal candidate must be able to use their own initiative when working alone or as part of a team and must also be able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills, show a flexible approach to work and be willing to work when required - this can be at short notice.,

  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Able to work with a diverse range of people, e.g. nursing staff, facilities staff, clinical staff, patients, visitors, general public.
  • Able to use own initiative within the duties of the post.
  • Able to record information accurately.
  • Able to communicate effectively in spoken and written English.
  • Numeracy skills equivalent to NVQ Level 1
  • Basic understanding of health and safety.
  • Able to communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to work unsocial hours as part of a shift rota.
  • Flexible approach to work.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Respect for patient privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
  • Proactive attitude.

  • Able to undertake the physical duties of the role.

  • Basic understanding of departmental duties and responsibilities for a portering role., Educated to GSCE level, NVQ Level 2 in support services in healthcare, Previous experience of working in a healthcare environment.
  • Previous experience in a similar role.

    The position will require the post holder to work various hours across a 24hr rota which includes nights, weekends and bank holidays, these will be paid at an enhanced hourly rate., The position will require the post holder to work various hours across a 24hr rota which could include nights, weekends and bank holidays.
