The role of the food safety manager contributes to Starbucks success by driving the food safety, quality & regulatory strategy in the UK and providing subject matter expertise and implementation support for retail food safety, store cleanliness and store conditions standards. You will be tasked with driving continuous improvement and consistent execution of food safety standards across company owned and licensed stores in the UK and working cross functionally with external business partners, internal support center partners and field operations. You will be an ambassador for our mission and values and will play a key role in attracting and retaining the very best talent. This is a standalone role, based in head office with no direct reports.

The best part about this role is that no two days are ever the same! Working as our Food Safety Manager , you'll get involved in:

  • Develop, implement, and track the effectiveness of food safety & quality programs including standards, procedures and tools to assure that food safety and hygiene requirements are met

  • Deliver effective communications to provide partners at all levels with appropriate awareness and knowledge of food safety standards, requirements, program updates and process changes

  • Analyse food safety & quality metrics, audit data, customer and regulator feedback. Highlights trends and potential opportunities for the food safety, quality & regulatory team

  • Coach and support the operational teams on food safety related queries and issues for all relevant projects

  • Manage and ensures that all food safety related complaints are fully investigated, tracked and resolved on a timely basis

  • Develop effective relationships with enforcement officers

  • Develop and delivers training programmes for retail stores and to other departments as necessary

  • Deliver against assigned business change projects. This will involve the development and publication of food safety standards and new retail processes to support brand innovation

  • Actively promote and drives the overall aim of developing and embedding an excellent food safety & quality culture throughout the business

  • Take ownership for continued professional development to ensure sufficient knowledge, skills and expertise to carry out all relevant duties

    Educated to a degree/diploma level in food safety

  • Experience within a food auditing and/or enforcement role

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and experience of HACCP principles

  • Ability to balance needs of the business against legal requirements and/or guidelines

  • Proactive and process-driven with the ability to consult with and influence various cross functional teams

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, changing priorities and to prioritize effectively

  • Ability to use initiative, anticipating required support and taking (or proposing) appropriate action

  • Ability to assimilate new information quickly and react positively to new and challenging opportunities

  • Strong team player, able to work on own and use initiative to find solutions

  • Can easily analyze information in a structured manner and prepare coherent communication

  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills with ability to work in a fast-paced environment
