Full Job Description
Bedminster Down School is looking for an excellent teacher and leader to join us as the Food Technology Lead. The successful candidate will be joining a friendly team, led by our exceptional Curriculum Team Leader for Design, who will provide the support and challenge required to help you to develop as a teacher and a leader. They will deliver disciplines across technology to students across the ability range in KS3 and KS4. The likely timetable for this post across the remainder of 2024/25 would include two-thirds food technology and one-third textiles.
Futura Learning Partnership is a partnership of schools across the South West that are working together to provide a high-quality educational experience for all students in their care and be a truly inclusive provider of 4-19 education in the area.
Our design curriculum is rooted in high expectations of all students, with a focus on providing a diverse range of rich and interesting projects which will allow students to express themselves, whilst consistently embedding the core knowledge that makes students the artists, engineers and Michelin Star chefs of the future. Our building is fantastically well apportioned; no design lessons take place outside of bespoke practical spaces, which include two large product design rooms, two catering rooms, our dark room for photography and kiln room for pottery. We believe strongly in providing a full KS3 experience to all of our young people, so the design curriculum remains broad until the end of Year 9, when students begin their KS4 options. As a result of the experience that students have in KS3, design is the most popular KS4 curriculum area, with multiple options classes running in almost every discipline. We work closely with the other Futura secondary schools to develop our shared
curriculum, to share the best resources and to identify the best teaching practice and share this pedagogical knowledge between schools. We have a strong belief in the power of high-quality teaching and learning to change the lives of our students and we have developed highly effective lesson structures and pedagogical approaches which drive progress in every lesson.
At Bedminster Down School, we operate a 'Ready to Learn' behaviour system. Our consistent approach to behaviour management ensures that any low-level disruption is dealt with rapidly and effectively. Our senior and pastoral teams manage the rare incidents of highly challenging behaviour and permanently staff the behaviour support rooms. This means that, as a teacher at Bedminster Down School, you have the ability to spend your work time on planning and delivering lessons which will maximize engagement and progress, as well as providing high quality feedback to your students.
In return we offer:
- A competitive salary
- A full and varied CPD programme offering teaching and leadership development for our staff
- An opportunity to work in a supportive team from whom you can learn, develop and grow
- Wider opportunities to be involved across the Futura Learning Partnership
- An energised and professional working environment
- Benefits include; pension scheme, discounted sports centre/gym membership, free wellbeing support & medical cover, free on-site parking and cycle to work scheme.
