Full Job Description

As part of this transformation, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Digital Forensic Unit as a Forensic Administrator - with the post at based in Kidlington, eventually moving to the new forensic centre in Bicester in 2026.

In this interesting role you will provide administrative support within the Digital Forensic Unit (DFU) ensuring the integrity and continuity of digital forensic evidence and presenting a professional interface between DFU and its customers in support of the organisational requirement to secure detections and convictions.

The duties will include the handling packaged exhibits, quality assurance checks, documenting and recording onto computerised systems of digital forensic exhibits. Along with helping to manage the unit's mailbox and organising as front of house - visitors and hand deliveries. Also dealing with incoming and outgoing post/dispatches and where necessary the secure packaging of exhibits for onward transmission ensuring exhibit integrity and carrying out general clerical duties such as call handling, filing, typing and photocopying.

  • Good communication skills and a "can do attitude".

  • Proven computer skills with ability to interrogate and accurately input data from handwritten, typed or dictated sources.

  • Proven ability to work as part of a team and have excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Experience of managing priorities against high demands

  • Be able to recognise sensitive and confidential documents and materials and deal with them in an appropriate manner. This may also include handling images/items of an unpleasant nature.

  • Good standard of education to GCSE standard or equivalent with proven skills in numeracy and literacy both oral and written. Have the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audience, and deal with customers in a professional manner.

    Vetting. All posts require a level of Police Vetting as per the National Vetting Code of Practice. The residency requirement is necessary to enable all applicants to be checked in an equitable manner. Thames Valley Police will allow applicants to apply who do not necessarily reach the criteria as long as they have proven UK residency and supporting evidence where necessary. Applications will be considered on a case by case basis.

    This is a full time position, working 37 hours per week, Monday - Thursday, 0800 - 1600 hours and 0800 - 1530 on a Friday.

    The successful candidate may be expected to undertake the established psychological screening process as the role may include handling images / items of an unpleasant nature.

    Along with all other posts in Force Crime, Intelligence and Specialist Operations Departments, this role will require an enhanced level of vetting.
