Your role and responsibilities
- Contribute to the achievement of the priority areas identified in the Departmental Service Plan.
- Work with the Suffolk County Council's Trading Standards lead officer and the Fraud, Protect and Prevent post hosted and managed within Suffolk Constabulary in relation to our scams prevention/fraud and financial abuse initiative and be able to support and advise other officers on key aspects of the work.
- Work with key partners to carry out support interventions (including joint visits) for those individuals identified as most vulnerable to scams, fraud and financial abuse.
- Deliver awareness/training sessions to partners, vulnerable community groups, businesses and business groups to help raise awareness on scams, fraud and financial abuse and advise on prevention mechanisms.
- Create and maintain deliverable training resources for partners and vulnerable groups.
- Allocate, install and monitor use and track effectiveness of interventions e.g. 'TrueCall' call blocking devices.
- Work with STS Community Engagement Officer to create and lead campaigns that promote shared messages supporting victim protection and crime prevention from fraud/scams with both residents and the business community, ensuring County-wide consistency of messaging.
- Work with key partners e.g. local representatives of the banking industry, voluntary sector, Suffolk MASH and Suffolk Constabulary Cyber protect Team on specific priority cases of fraud/scams involving the most vulnerable individuals suffering the most financial abuse.
- Collaborate with the Fraud, Prevent and Protect post hosted and managed within Suffolk Constabulary to support the delivery of the Suffolk Anti-Fraud Partnership (SAFP).
- Work with the National Trading Standards Scams Team to deliver campaigns at a local level, receive and assess information using the 'Compass' database.
- Carry out necessary work and training related activities and assessments to achieve the Level 4 Regulatory Compliance Officer Apprenticeship through CSA training provider.
As part of your role, you will be required to complete the Level 4 Regulatory Compliance Officer apprenticeship. This 16-month programme (14 months + 2 months for end point assessment) will provide you with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in this position. We'll offer the support and flexibility you need to succeed. If you've already completed this apprenticeship or have equivalent experience or qualifications, this will not be required.

You will need

- to be self-motivated and able to progress through a supported training programme (Regulatory Compliance Officer Level 4 Apprenticeship)
- to demonstrate a customer focus in all work
- Level 2 in Maths and English, and a Level 5 qualification or equivalent knowledge or experience in a relevant area.

The team
Trading Standards is a law enforcement service enforcing 80 different Acts of Parliament covering areas including Animal Health and Welfare, Safety of products, Weights and Measures and Food safety and Labelling, as well as protecting vulnerable Consumers from doorstep traders and scams. Officers work with businesses and consumers within the community to make a real difference to people's lives, whilst working to make Suffolk a Rogue-Free County.
You will be part of one of three demand teams, reporting to a Principal Trading Standards Officer. All teams are multi-functional and can enforce all aspects of the work of Trading Standards. The Service is forward thinking and applies Systems Thinking Principles to deliver excellent customer service and staff are encouraged to contribute creative ideas to continually learn and improve. Your role will specifically be focused on scams and financial abuse prevention, and it is intended that you will work closely with a further dedicated Fraud, Prevent and Protect post hosted and managed within Suffolk Constabulary.

£32,076 per annum (pro rata if part time)
