Full Job Description

The overall purpose of Health Informatics has been defined as to: Enable, promote and support the effective use of data, information, knowledge and technology to support and improve health and health care delivery. Therefore, the role of Informatics is to ensure the organisation has the required Business intelligence and Information Services necessary to provide excellent clinical care to it's service users and to give the organisation accurate and timely information on which to base the provision and development of services. The post holder will be responsible for building the 'client-side' of SPIKE2 web applications. Post holder should be able to translate Trust and departmental needs into functional and appealing interactive applications., Use mark-up languages like HTML, Angular to create user-friendly web applications. Maintain and improve trust-wide web applications. Optimize applications for maximum speed. Design multiplatform features for those web applications. Collaborate with back-end developers and Senior end developer to improve usability. Get feedback from, and build solutions for, various internal stakeholders. Write functional requirement documents and guides. Create quality mock-ups and prototypes. Help back-end developers with coding and troubleshooting. Ensure high quality graphic standards and data consistency. Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies., Develop and maintain a detailed knowledge of information and operational business processes and how these can support the achievement of agreed targets and objectives; Develop the Trust's information and performance management systems to enable better business decision-making; Present highly complex information regarding the implementation of technical reporting solutions in a clear and understandable format to groups or meetings, including making formal presentations to large groups and/or workshops taking into account the background of the audience; Support the scoping, development and implementation of a Business Intelligence tool (SPIKE2) and associated dashboards; Produce, analyse and interpret highly-complex statistical information (which will frequently be of a contentious nature) to groups of users (both internal and external) in a clear and understandable way; Ensure all information outputs of the Data Warehouse are accurate, fit for purpose, delivered to time and follow the agreed development methodology with full written documentation; Develop and maintain a detailed knowledge of information and operational business processes and how these can support the achievement of agreed targets and objectives; Develop the Trust's information and performance management systems to enable better business decision-making; Present highly complex information regarding the implementation of technical reporting solutions in a clear and understandable format to groups or meetings, including making formal presentations to large groups and/or workshops; Produce, analyse and interpret highly-complex statistical information to groups of users (both internal and external) in a clear and understandable way; Design, code, test and implement efficient and robust database schemas plus SQL Queries, Views, Stored Procedures, and Triggers as part of data warehouse development

  • Educated to Degree in a computer related discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • Evidence of substantial software development experience in the full software development lifecycle and project management
  • Evidence of working in a data warehouse environment within the NHS
  • Good knowledge and understanding of NHS data standards and definitions
  • Understanding of the information needs of operational staff at all levels within organisations and experience of working across-organisation Boundaries
  • Knowledge and experience of Information Governance - information security management, data protection act, freedom of information act and records management.
  • Experience of manipulating highly complex data to produce automated reports.
  • Understanding of reporting layers that negate the need for analysts to re-write complex scripts whenever there is a change to the data warehouse structure

  • Development of large databases using Microsoft SQL Server with web based front ends in an NHS environment.
  • Experience within a broad and complex corporate IT operational environment
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Services., Proficient in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
  • Highly proficient database management and querying skills with a proven ability to write complex stored procedures, functions and triggers.
  • A logical approach to investigating, analysing and resolving data and programming problems.
  • Robust system and unit testing experience, producing relevant test documentation
  • Knowledge of data privacy laws and in particular NHS IM&T policies and procedures.
  • An understanding of how applications/systems integrate and work together.
  • In-depth level work experience as a Front-end developer.
  • Significant hands on experience with mark-up languages.
  • Significant experience with SQL, SSRS, SSIS, JavaScript, CSS and jQuery.
  • Familiarity with browser testing and debugging
  • Understanding of the entire web development process (design, development and deployment)
  • Indepth knowledge of software like Spring tool suite, SourceTree, Git, Postman, Gradle, Node.js, Angular 5, Visual studio IDE.
  • Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of hospital information systems, particularly patient administration and clinical management systems
  • Detailed knowledge of modern relational database design and implementation (e.g. Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Access).
  • System development quality assurance and best practice
  • Skills for managing relationships with a range of different stakeholders
  • Excellent computing keyboard skills and proven experience in using different software development tools including Visual Studio (TFS, BIDS), Communication of highly complex information to users at all levels internal to the organisation and with external clients, suppliers and vendors.
  • Negotiate on difficult and very complex and detailed issues with the ability to clearly communicate at a level understandable by the audience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to present and explain complex data.
  • To advise users of issues relating to the IT data warehouse in order to meet their reporting needs.
  • Desirable criteria
  • Maintains productive relationships with different parties, in order to understand the software development needs of the Trust.
  • To provide support and training to team members in order to develop their infrastructure support skills and knowledge.
