The campus blends modern laboratory facilities with historic buildings in a spacious, beautifully landscaped setting. The campus offers the companies excellent amenities: fully-equipped meeting rooms and conferencing facilities, bar, coffee shop and refectory, a sports and social club, gym, tennis court and football pitch. A large component of the estate grounds including the wood, grass, grazing meadows and park land are opened for both the campus and the wider community to walk through and use.RoleThe post holder will be working within a team who are responsible for maintaining and managing the formal gardens and landscape of the campus, ensuring that a complete maintenance service to the Estate is provided to the Babraham Research CampusResponsibilities

  • Provide seasonal maintenance of the estate in accordance with the programme of works as directed by the Head gardener and developed from the management plan. Tasks to include (but not exclusively) grass cutting, weeding, planting, watering, leaf collecting, hedge cutting. Use and maintenance of a range of garden and grounds machinery (e.g. ride-on, walk-behind mowers, tractors etc.) as necessary and undertaking of specialist training where required. Formative and rejuvative maintenance of deciduous and evergreen trees, shrubs, climbers and hedges To support line management in maintaining health and safety in the grounds and gardens to ensure the safety of staff and visitors. Maintenance of hard landscaped areas, roads and pathways Training for the appropriate, timely and safe use of pesticides and other forms of pest control (moles, rabbits, rats) Assist in the recording and labelling of the plant collection, including any propagation tasks.

    General estate maintenance including trees, fencing and conservation etc As and when required, assist the Estates Team with the collection of waste During the winter months (November - March) the post-holder will be required to be on-call in order to respond to adverse weather conditions. Duties whilst on call, will include: snow clearing and salting/gritting on paths, car parks, roads and building access areas as and when required To carry out any other reasonable management requestPerson SpecificationEducation and Qualifications P.A.1 / P.A.6 SprayingExperience Previous experience of working as a Gardener or landscape maintenance operative. Experience of using garden machinery (such as driving ride on mowers, using strimmer, walk behind mowers, driving Tractors Experience of using larger estate machinery (e.g. driving tractors, telehandlers) Experience in tool and machinery maintenance i.e tool sharpening & ride on mower servicing.Skills
