General Manager Tax, Customs & Export Control UK/IE

This position provides a uniquie opportunity to experience the increasingly competitive global market while also pushing the development of what will be the future of international trade and in the tax environment. It interacts with many players within the comapny, most notiably Logistics, Purchasing, Transportation, Accounting, IT and Legal.

What awaits you?

  • Perform customs and tax governance for all BMW UK and Irish entities based on the BMW guidelines.

  • Ensure, supervise and steer UK and Irish customs, export control and tax compliance (e.g., declarations, customs valuation) for all BMW UK and Irish entities including reporting of tax required for local accounting purposes, group accounts and interim group reporting purpose.

  • Ensure, supervise and steer UK and Irish tax compliance for all non-UK and Irish BMW Group entities regarding and UK matters.

  • Advise BMW UK and Irish entities regarding UK and Irish customs, export control and tax risk management. Assure the risk reporting to the head quarter based on a holistic local custom, export control and tax management system (TC2M).

  • Exploit opportunities to optimise UK and Irish tax and customs duty payments (incl. duty savings schemes such as FTAs, etc.) within legal constraints and BMW guidelines.

  • Communicate with the headquarter in all BMW Group projects that have UK and Irish customs, export control and tax implications (e.g., new IT projects, tax and customs procedures, preferential trade programs, new products, new or change of business models, acquisitions, AEO etc. not just advising but to actively implement required changes.

  • Lead and maintain communication, negotiations, and all interfaces efficiently with the network customs, export control and tax, all other BMW network partners, with the UK and Irish tax and customs authorities and external advisors in UK and Ireland.

  • Monitor and communicate developments in UK and Irish customs, export control and tax legislation and case law to ensure that all implications for BMW UK and Irish entities and non-UK and Irish BMW Group entities involved in such transactions are identified and acted upon efficiently and effectively. Actively implement required changes relating to new developments.

  • Lead, develop and steer the strategy regarding design, implementation, maintenance, testing (etc.) of compliant tax, customs and export control systems, technologies, and processes for concerned UK & IE BMW Group entities, including harmonization, synchronization and distribution of data and customs, export control or tax related KPI/KCIs.

  • Lead and develop the strategy regarding service providers to ensure quality of services regarding systems and projects.

    University (Master/Bachelors) degree (Business,Law,Economy & Commerce) with in-depth knowledge of international tax, customs and export control as well as specific knowledge as concerns the special programs in place for the automotive industry in UK and Ireland.

  • Highly motivated, self-organised, independant individual with minimum 8-10 years of prefoessional experience in a reputable International consulting firm, law firm, tax and/or customs department of an international group or tax and/or customs authorities with vast automotive background.

  • In-depth knowledge and experience in the specialised disciplines noted throughout this position evaluation - background in manufacturing preferable.

  • Demonstratable leadership experience.

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills.

  • Basic foreign language skills (German perferred).

  • International and cross-cultural experience preferred

  • This position requires domestic and occasional international travel.
