High dependency care and patient safety, In addition, within the Evelina we work in close liaison with paediatric respiratory, paediatric gastroenterology, paediatric infectious diseases, paediatric rheumatology, paediatrics diabetes & endocrinology, paediatric haematology/coagulopathies, paediatric emergency medicine, PICU, NICU, paediatric surgery, paediatric nephrology, paediatric cardiology, paediatric ENT, paediatric neurology, paediatric allergy, paediatric dermatology, paediatric ophthalmology and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

General paediatrics at St Thomas' moved to its current site at Evelina London Children's Hospital along with children's tertiary specialities from Guy's Hospital in 2005. Over the past 19 years expansion of the general paediatric team has been achieved by employing paediatricians with a variety of specialist interests which has allowed the gathering of other specialty expertise required by the children's hospital., The General Paediatric department provides a wide range of healthcare services to local children through inpatient and outpatient treatment. Our patients reflect the diverse community living locally, and we see and manage a range of common and rarer conditions. We also manage many cases from the South East England catchment area which have been retrieved to PICU and then come under the care of the general paediatricians. These children often have complex multi-system problems and provide an interesting caseload. We have an HDU (currently up to 7 beds) in which we manage acutely ill children, and often children requiring acute respiratory support including CPAP, BIPAP and stable long-term ventilation. The HDU is staffed by a specialist team of nurses, led by an experienced sister. We have 24/7 physiotherapy support and have close links with the PICU team.
