Full Job Description

Vacancies have arisen for a general Porters based at Morriston Hospital in Swansea Bay University Health Board. The posts will be based on one site, although there may be a requirement to work at other Health Board hospitals. We are offering 37.5 hrs contracts and the working pattern will be varied with shifts covering a 24/7 service. The post holder will be required to undertake a wide range of routine Portering duties including Patient movement, moving and handling, in line with the Portering department and general Health Board policies and procedures, with a commitment to customer care, following on the job training. They will also be required to provide and maintain a flexible, dedicated, comprehensive support service to departments of the hospitals, under the direction of Portering Coordinator/ Portering Shift Leaders, establishing both clinical and non-clinical departments to function effectively. The post holder will work as part of a team to provide an efficient Portering services to the Health Board, contributing to first class customer service to all users of the Health Board.,

  • Transport patients valuables / cash etc to admin department. Daily receipt, collection sorting and delivery of general and medical stores.
  • Transportation of controlled drugs in accordance with Trust procedures and statutory guidelines. Transportation of patient's meal containers. Collection and distribution of Patients' hospital notes, internal mail and sorting, franking of external mail in preparation for collection by an external provider.o Collect, distribute and document specimens / bloods for pathology, as and when required, ensuring their security at all times. Compulsory training is essential fort this role. Provide the exchange, transfer of manifold and gas cylinders and document a record of the usage. Report any identifiable faults.o Undertake driving duties using vans/ambulances, undertake hospital mortuary duties in the transfer and documentation of the deceased, and assist the police, ambulance and undertakers to gain access to the mortuary, in the absence of mortuary personnel.o Escort patients bereaved relatives to the mortuary as and when required, ensure that the expectations of service
  • users are met through the compliance with the Portering Service standards.o Attend training as required to meet statutory and service needs within the Portering Service.

    The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
