Full Job Description

The Macmillan Cancer Family History Service provides a comprehensive service for individuals concerned about their family history of cancer. The service provides risk assessment, access to appropriate surveillance, information, support and possible genetic testing to families where necessary.
The post holder will provide specialist support to patients requiring assessment of risk in relation to a potential genetic link to their diagnosed cancer or have been identified as at risk of a family history of cancer.
The post holder will link with primary, secondary, and tertiary care teams, providing them with specialist advice and specialist education on current guidelines and how to access the service.
Please note that although this is a full-time post, we will also consider applications for part-time work., The post holder will provide specialist support to patients requiring assessment of risk in relation to a potential genetic link to their diagnosed cancer or have been identified as at risk of a family history of cancer.
The post holder will provide specialist support and undertake genetic testing for patients diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer and high-risk Lynch patients.
The post holder will be mentored and supported by the cancer family history clinical lead and will carry a supervised caseload providing specialist assessment, advice and information and support to patients.
You will be part of a dynamic team, based at the James Cook University Hospital, who have been developing the service model with patients, cancer services collaborative, primary and secondary care, and you will be expected to contribute to the ongoing service development of the model., South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training to all new staff to the Trust; this training programme has been designed to support our leaders in developing their understanding of leadership and management skills. After you complete this four and a half days of training you will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities, we offer further in-house courses dependent upon your role and bitesize programmes and leadership apprenticeships at level 3,5 and 7., It is now the policy of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who are new to the Trust who require DBS clearance for the post they have been offered, are required to pay the cost of their DBS. The method of payment for this is via salary deduction from your first month's pay.

Your application will need to demonstrate your experience in health care, plus what your interest and understanding of cancer genetics is. You will also need to be self-motivated, able to work within a clinical framework and demonstrate that you have good communication skills that will support patients through what is a difficult assessment.
We will also be looking for candidates who have evidence of recent personal development and perhaps basic counselling skills. As these posts provide a service across the Network, you will need to be able to travel independently across sites
