The Clinical Genetics Service at UHBW are delighted to invite applicants for one full time fixed term to 31st March 2025 Genomic Associate Post'
The Genomic Associate is a newly established Healthcare Science Associate role within the Genomic Counselling workstream.
The Genomic Associate is responsible for facilitating the collection of information, consent, samples and test results to enable genomic counselling and testing for patients with rare diseases and their family members.
This post has been established to help support the collection of mandatory national clinical data for the National Inherited Cancer Predisposition Register (NICPR).
The National Disease Registration Service (NDRS) and the UK Cancer Genetics Group (UKCGG) are developing the NICPR to capture data on individuals with a likely pathogenic / pathogenic (LP / P) variant in a cancer susceptibility gene (CSG) in England.
The post holder will need to collate data from the Clinical Genetics Service and the South West Genomic Laboratory Hub and submit this in the format determined by the NDRS, with appropriate supervision from the department.
This will be the main focus of this genomic associate role and funding is available until 31st March 2025.
The Genomic Associate will work within clinical genetics under the guidance and supervision of Genetic Counsellors and Clinical Geneticists and is required to work to departmental Standard Operating Procedures, and current professional standards. (contd.)
Working within the clinical genetics department, under the supervision of registered Genetic Counsellor's the Genomic Associate will be responsible for reviewing the clinical genetics database and contacting the Southwest Genomics laboratory hub to collate data needed for the NICPR.
Additionally, the Genomic Associate will support our current Genomic Associate team in managing their workload when not working on the registry project.
This may include making telephone contact with patients referred in to our service to gather specific information requested by Clinician's prior to or after a Genetics clinic appointment.
This will consist of gathering family history information such as names and dates of birth of relatives and where relevant discussing consent to access medical records or genetic test results to inform the genetic counselling process.
It could include obtaining appropriate samples for genetic testing and recording consent for these where appropriate. The role can include co-ordinating multidisciplinary meetings and occasional education events for professionals.
