Full Job Description

They are now looking for a GIS Analyst and Trainer in preparation for a mass rollout of data products in the REACH project, including microplan support maps, that teams on the ground will use to plan and deliver vaccinations at new outreach and mobile locations. This role will assist with the production of these data products and provide capacity strengthening to ensure that end users are able to utilise them to best effect. You will be responsible for a combination of GIS analytical, communication and training tasks, including the design and delivery of training materials. GIS Analyst and Trainer, the role: Training:

  • Understanding and use GIS outputs; supporting in building an enhanced understanding of user need among the various partners in the project; developing training materials and resources for use in face-to-face and online/remote/distance training and capacity strengthening, e.g. webinars, videos, presentations, manuals; delivering training sessions (in person and online) and building the capacity of local partners
  • GIS Analysis:
  • Collaborating with Spatial Data Analyst on analysis workflows, data management and generation of data products; assisting with country data gathering/sharing from relevant agencies and sectors; processing available geo-referenced datasets; developing and supporting visualisations; producing presentations, reports, documents for delivery of analyses to different audiences; providing ad-hoc geospatial expertise to project partners
  • Coordination and Engagement:
  • Working closely with the UK-based Project Manager to support the coordination of Flowminder's activities across the project countries; building and maintaining excellent relationships with in-country stakeholders

    Postgraduate qualification in relevant discipline (geography, social statistics, geographic information systems)
  • Excellent skills in GIS software e.g. ArcGIS and/or QGIS
  • Experience in using and managing geo-referenced data
  • Professional knowledge in data analysis, statistics, or data-related fields
  • Confident in designing and delivering training, ideally in GIS analysis and/or statistical analysis and/or demography
  • Experience in reporting analytical findings and in data visualisation
  • Ability to work well in a team and independently and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • An interest in working on humanitarian and development data-related challenges with genuine desire to see the outputs of your work improve the lives of vulnerable populations
  • Desirable:
  • Willingness to explore emerging methods of online training delivery
  • Good understanding of low and middle-income country contexts
  • Experience working with government agencies and on humanitarian and development data-related challenges
  • Contributions to the development of software solutions for data-related activities
  • Ability to write well-documented, maintainable code (python, R, etc) and use version control software (including git)

    6 months FTC, full time
