Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust Ophthalmology Department are currently recruiting for a Clinical Fellow in Glaucoma to commence employment from 3rd March 2025.The Glaucoma Fellow post will be supporting the large Glaucoma department in providing key clinical services to the department. Recent fellows have enjoyed superb clinical and surgical training and mentoring from a large team of Glaucoma sub-specialists. This post will be based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital but travel to Wycombe and Amersham Hospitals may be needed in line with service. There are 4 Substantive Glaucoma consultants and a 5th locum consultant as well as an experienced Specialty Doctor. This post is fixed term for 12 months Fixed Term Contract in the first instance with a possible extension for 12 months Fixed Term. The successful applicant will have training in the clinical and surgical management of the Glaucoma with clinical work-up and decision making in the out-patient setting. There will also be surgical training in cataract surgery in glaucoma patients, trabeculectomy, Preserflo, ECP endolaser and cyclodiode laser, Baerveldt and / or Paul tubes and MIGS surgery including iStent and OMNI. The post holder will also have glaucoma laser lists for iridotomy and SLT. The post-holder should expect occasional routine cataract lists and sessions in eye casualty. Research and audit are actively encouraged and supported.Supervision of junior trainees may be required depending on experienceMain duties of the job General Conditions of Appointment Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of ophthalmology patients. To share with colleagues' responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Glaucoma Service e.g. assessment of new patients and follow-up patients, performing Glaucoma laser procedures and assisting with theatre lists. Some input into the teaching and training of junior staff. To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit. To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD). Annual Appraisal and job planning are a core requirement of this post to ensure that the work of this post is fully aligned with the objectives of the Trust The appointee will be expected to cover for colleagues' absence from duty based on mutually agreed arrangements with the department and with the employing Trust. This is arranged by mutual agreement of colleagues and approval of the department manager. It is essential that six weeks' notice is given to allow for proper planning and prevent cancellation of clinics. This includes all forms of leave.
