Full Job Description

This is new and exciting role on the Senior Leadership Team of the wider Sales, Marketing & Assessment Leadership Team (SMALT) within ELT (English Language Teaching), where you will provide leadership for Sales teams across the globe. We have talented teams, and you will harness the existing strengths to develop a coherent and coordinated sales function that can focus on day-to-day sales performance and reporting, capitalise on new opportunities, respond quickly and deliver growth in both current and adjacent markets and demonstrate the power of learning English to transform lives. You will also be responsible for motivating teams and ensuring that structured Sales training is working effectively to develop teams further.

There are three Regional Directors (for Americas, EMEA and APAC) reporting into this role and their regional teams combine sales and marketing expertise close to their customers. The Director, Educational Solutions and General Manager, Turkey, Central Asia and North Africa also report into this role.

Your duties will include:

  • The P&L of all the regions under their responsibility with special attention on achievement of results and effective sales planning and reporting processes

  • Providing leadership to, and developing the capability of, the regional sales teams

  • Driving new business and new business models and delivering a step change in our Educational Solutions offering

  • Planning, deploying and mobilising sales teams to achieve ELT revenue targets in-year and over the 5 year planning cycle.

  • Working in partnership with Group and divisional stakeholders (especially in the Product and Marketing and Assessment functions) in accordance with organisational "Ways of Working" and principles of "One OUP"

  • Working closely with the central Sales Operations, Supply and Inventory Management teams to ensure the division has close oversighjt of orders received and stock movements

  • Creating and developing a world class team driven by a culture of high performance and outcomes in accordance with organisational design principles, HR strategies and group values and ethics

  • Taking all appropriate steps and set a positive tone from the top to ensure that there is full awareness of, and compliance with, OUP's anti-bribery and ethical policies and procedures.

  • Ensuring that the regions comply fully with OUP's central governance and relevant external standards regarding financial and legal matters, including health and safety.

  • Making an active contribution to the Sales, Marketing and Assessment Leadership Team, sharing knowledge and experience and collaborating across the division and wider OUP to fulfil the mission


  • We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.

    Data driven approach to Sales leadership and reporting

  • Extensive experience of successfully leading large globally dispersed sales teams with a relentless focus on sales performance and delivering results

  • Industry relevant experience - ideally in a large publishing environment

  • Evidence of business development skills

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage a wide range of senior stakeholders both internal and external

  • Ability to implement change, while maintaining the focus and motivation of teams, English Language Teaching
