Full Job Description

Join our new organisation as Governance Assistant to play your part in developing a different, better approach to public sector governance.
Welcome to EMCCA
EMCCA is the UK's first mayor-led combined county authority. The East Midlands is a great region. But it deserves to be better. Better connected, better funded, and better prepared for a future of opportunity, growth, and hope. EMCCA will oversee devolved powers around transport, housing, skills and adult education, economic development, and net zero. We will conceive the strategies and create the connections that will empower local partners, people, and businesses - maximising the impact of billions of pounds of funding. Together, our new EMCCA team can put the East Midlands on the map as a place to live, work and study.
Your role in elevating the East Midlands
The delivery of strong governance and accountability will be crucial to EMCCA's future success and impact. We want to do governance differently at EMCCA - and we want to do it better. Our ambition is to develop an 'East Midlands way' that becomes the best practice exemplar for Combined Authority governance and accountability.
You will have an important supporting role in ensuring we reach the standards we desire and enable decision-making that is strategically aligned, effective, proportionate, and open to test and challenge.
Your key responsibilities will include:
+ Supporting comprehensive servicing arrangements for allocated Member, officer, and other external meetings.
+ Providing diary support to Director of Legal & Governance.
+ Preparing and distributing agendas, minutes and reports and implementation of decisions.
+ Ensuing best practice access to, and presentation of, information and the co-ordination of items between meetings.
+ Contributing towards the integrated central support provided for Members and Directorates.
+ Supporting Member Training and Development.
+ Administering arrangements pre- and post-election for setting up and bedding in the new authority.
+ Supporting the Monitoring Officer in the exercise of their duties, particularly in maintaining the Register of Members' Interests.
+ Contributing to improvements to current methods and procedures based on experience of using and working within them.

A good understanding of public sector / local government services and how they are governed.
+ The ability to produce accurate minutes and assist in coordinating, preparing, and arranging the dispatch of meeting agendas and reports.
+ The ability to summarise documents and discussions clearly and produce reports.
+ Good knowledge of workflow and communications technologies, including remote meetings.
+ Experience of analysing and interpreting data.
+ Demonstrable record of taking the initiative and proactively improving business systems/ processes / services.
+ Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and organise a busy workload and work on own initiative within tight deadlines.
+ Excellent customer care skills, with the ability to deal confidently with a range of internal and external customers and stakeholders.
+ The ability to use initiative and judgement in handling and resolving enquiries and issues.
