Full Job Description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join Cobham Primary School's excellent governing board. Following our recent amazing Ofsted inspection and with new school leadership since September, we are looking for knowledgeable and motivated individuals to help us drive the next phase of the school's vision and strategy.
We are currently seeking one governor: our current board's information is available here.
Together with the headteacher, the Governing Body has strategic responsibility for the running of the school; amongst many duties governors are involved in deciding school policies, allocating the school's budget and appointing senior staff.
The Governing Body has three core functions:
+ Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
+ Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
+ Overseeing the school's financial performance and making sure its money is well spent.
No special qualifications are needed, the most important thing is to have a keen interest in the school and be prepared to give time to play an active part in the Governing Body's work. In order to support governors in their work full training is provided at no cost to the individual.
At this time, we are especially interested to hear from individuals with knowledge and experience of finance and operational management in the public sector, although there is a range of other skills and knowledge that would be of great value to the board.
We are especially interested in candidates from those who are currently underrepresented on our board.

The school site is a picturesque one with many outstanding outdoor features. We benefit from having a full-sized playing field and two playgrounds. We also utilise many of the local areas of natural beauty to enhance our children's learning. Classrooms are large and attractively decorated. The school, a listed building, was opened in 1874 and given to the village by the Earl of Darnley, who lived at Cobham Hall, and whose coat of arms adorns the school crest. Our school library with its beautiful mural and our well equipped ICT suite are used extensively to engage children in their learning. Our TRUST values of Tolerance, Respect, Unity, Strength and Truth are at the forefront of all that we aim to achieve and be.
