Full Job Description

We have an exciting new opportunity for a GP Assistant to join the team based in Colne Medical Centre on a part time basis, for 24 hours per week. This is a new post developed to deliver better outcomes for our patients by supporting GP's with appointments and necessary paperwork. Main duties include:

  • Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions.
  • Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes.
  • Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients.
  • Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment.
  • Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs & phlebotomy.
  • Explaining treatment procedures to patients.
  • Filing and allocating of test results, with clinical support.
  • Working with our care co-ordination team.
  • Working to achieve QOF and IIF outcomes.
  • Supporting practice team to help patients with their chronic disease management reviews.

  • You will need to be focused and conscientious, with excellent attention to detail and be able to work comfortably in a team as well as independently. Previous experience of working in primary care and using SystmOne would be advantageous.

    Colne Medical Centre serves the whole of Brightlingsea as well as its surrounding villages and has a branch surgery at Alresford. The team includes 5 GPs 4 nurse practitioners, a paramedic, 3 practice nurses, 3 healthcare assistants, a pharmacy technician and physiotherapists, as well as the practice manager, administrative and reception staff.
