Find out more and apply here: DWP uses external providers to deliver a number of specialist services for some of the most vulnerable customers, including those who are disabled, have health conditions or are in long term unemployment. Responsibility of managing health and employment contracts sits within Contract Management and Partner Delivery (CMPD), as well as supporting local authorities to deliver Housing Benefit (HB), allocating and managing billions of pounds in funding. CMPD sits within Finance Group (FG) and works closely with a wide range of colleagues including DWP Operations, Commercial, Finance, Strategy and contracted suppliers. CMPD are seeking a G6 Senior Leader, Head of Health Controls in the Controls and Assurance Division (CAD). CAD is responsible for the controls environment for DWP's suite of nationally contracted health assessment services and employment support provision. Controls and Assurance are at the centre of what we do and critical to the successful delivery of our contracted provision in terms of customer service, delivering value for money and protecting public money., The following are examples of key tasks that the post holder may be responsible for:

  • Being an active member of the CMPD senior leadership community, communicating a clear and compelling vision to teams, partners and suppliers, supporting delivery of CMPD and DWP aims and objectives and role modelling a culture that strives for excellence.
  • To provide inspirational and visible leadership to a team of around 30 people, actively promoting diversity and inclusion, and supporting staff health and well-being.
  • To maintain, develop and champion effective controls for DWP's health assessment contracts including:
  • 1) Managing an operational process delivering nearly 5,000 audits each month ensuring appropriate feedback is given to health assessment suppliers, with a keen focus on quality and delivery. 2) Working with internal stakeholders and suppliers, delivering an operational programme to validate costs submitted by the Health Assessment suppliers, to provide assurance to the Health Assessment Account Director that costs paid are accurate, allowable and appropriate.
  • Chair the Working Group for Health that supports the Department's Validation and Assurance Board.
  • Promote an environment of continuous improvement and work to ensure that any DWP future health contracts include effective controls and assurance processes.
  • Engaging with stakeholders from across the Department and external suppliers of contracted provision, to ensure that the controls environment is considered and impacted at every stage of policy design and the operational process.
