Full Job Description

We are looking for a Graduate Air Quality Scientist to join an established and successful Air Quality team, where you'll get involved with Air Quality assessments and low emission strategies, dust, odour assessments, emissions inventories and local air quality management, as well as discovering how Air Quality fits into our broader consultancy offering.

Our UK Air Quality Team continues to be engaged in a wide range of technical work and to help continue the successful growth of the team and wider Stantec UK business. The Air Quality team undertakes a wide range of studies across the UK throughout the development control process (i.e. in support of site promotion, input to the planning application, condition discharge) for all scales and types of development. We also undertake detailed studies in support of Major Infrastructure (Highways etc) and Environmental Permit applications in the power, water, industry, minerals and waste sectors. In the Built Environment sector, the Air Quality Team supports our clients in delivering sustainable and desirable developments through promoting Stantec's ethos of 'designing with communities in mind' and 'Places first' by providing insight at the initial conceptual stage of developments, to ensure air quality positive design measures are embedded to minimise generation and exposure to air pollution
(outdoor and indoor). Notable projects have included major schemes such as the M3J9 Improvements, Wokingham Local Plan Update and the Slough Trading Estate Simplified Planning Zone and large-scale regeneration projects such as Ebbsfleet Central.

You would join the existing Stantec UK Air Quality team in either our Bristol and London offices alongside colleagues in the wider Environmental Services team and Stantec's Engineering, Buildings, Infrastructure, Transportation and Planning Teams. You will assist to undertake air quality impact assessments, involving road traffic, combustion and possibly odour emissions, be familiar with the use of air quality dispersion modelling software (e.g. Aermod/ADMS/ADMS-Roads) and be providing input to report writing and contributing to Environmental Statement preparation.

You will also assist with project delivery and providing input to enhancing assessments to reflect emerging requirements in relation to both human and ecological receptors to provide a more holistic approach to air quality.

You will assist with:

  • Dispersion modelling of road traffic and industrial pollution sources.

  • Writing air quality reports to accompany planning applications and input to Environment Impact Assessments

  • Initial site appraisals and consultation

  • Application of GIS for effective and accurate model input and communication of results

  • Input to proposals for air quality projects

  • Liaison with clients and key stakeholders

  • Air quality monitoring studies

  • Construction phase dust assessments
