Full Job Description
We are seeking to employ Graduate Athletic Development Coaches for the 2025-2026 academic year to contribute to our athletic development and boarding programmes.
Millfield is not like other schools and never has been. Founded in 1935, Millfield's vision is to be the world leader for the development of children. There are nearly 1300 students at the senior school (year 9 to 13) and a further 450 students at the neighbouring prep school. Millfield's size brings great opportunity, and the facilities are unmatched in the UK: an Olympic-sized swimming pool, state of the art hockey/rugby/football pitches, golf courses, indoor centres for tennis, golf, cricket, and an equestrian centre; concert hall, recording studio, theatre, art gallery, hi-tech Science block and outstanding teaching facilities; and high-quality boarding accommodation.
The Graduate Athletic Development Coach will be responsible for supporting the athletic development of students aged 13 to 18. The Graduate Athletic Development Coach will deliver athletic training aligned with the school's athletic development principles and philosophy to students participating in a wide range of sports. The role will involve coaching in both large, medium, and small group settings. The graduate placement year in the sports department of Millfield School will provide an unrivalled opportunity to develop your skills in one of the UK's leading independent schools for boys and girls.
The posts run for a full academic year from September through June, with breaks for school holidays. Graduate Athletic Development Coaches will also be expected to work 2 weeks during non-term time which typically occurs during late August to contribute to pre-school training camps.
Graduates with onsite accommodation will work 39 hours per week which will be divided between athletic development and boarding commitments (an average of 6 hours per week on evening duties in the boarding programme and one weekend in three). You will receive £15,340.86 salary per annum (inclusive of holiday pay) plus full board and lodgings (non-monetary, to the value of £3,208.66 per annum).
Graduates not living onsite will not be expected to contribute towards the boarding programme and will work the full 39 hours per week in the athletic development department, receiving £18,902.11 per annum (inclusive of statutory holiday pay). There is a formal personal development programme provided as part of the placement opportunity which is overseen by the Head of Student Athlete Support and many expert staff within the department. This has a value more than £2500.
