Full Job Description

This role is based within our Customer Connections Team. This is the department that connects customers - such as data centres, battery storage projects, offshore wind farms, transport networks and solar farms - to the electricity transmission network. It's a collaborative effort, and at any one time there are between 300-400 people working within the department. Their expertise includes: construction, project management, commercial, analytical, account management, communications, power system engineering and feasibility engineering. The connections process is key to delivering the capacity needed for an efficient and renewable transmission network and we need to deliver an increasing number of highly complex and exciting new projects. In this role you would play a crucial role in enabling us to do this. Your role will involve supporting the ongoing transformation of Connection arrangements within National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET). Working closely with Connection Reform Managers, you will focus on policy, regulatory, and process reform activities. You will be responsible for self-directed project-based work, collaborating with various stakeholders across Customer Connections and the broader National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) business. Working on high priority topics within the electricity industry today, some of your key accountabilities will be:

  • Review and summarize policy and regulatory changes from Electricity System Operator (ESO), Government, and Ofgem, ensuring clear interpretation for internal stakeholders.
  • Support and lead the development of NGET's policy positions on Connections Reform topics.
  • Build and maintain an internal network to gather inputs from various business areas for policy development.
  • Work on improving customer interactions and the service provided.
  • Plan and monitor the effectiveness of customer engagement efforts, providing insightful reports on findings., As you'll be joining our 18-month graduate programme, you'll have a tailored development pathway to support you as you develop a wide range of leadership, business, and technical skills. You'll attend in-person and virtual development sessions throughout your programme to equip you with the essential skills required, as you begin your career at National Grid. We're committed to the personal development of our colleagues so as well as the support from your line manager as you navigate your new role, you'll also have access to 121 coaching and a mentor, from a previous cohort to help you transition from campus to corporate life.

You'll need to achieve a minimum 2:2 degree this would be preferable for a commercial focus (e.g. business, economics etc.). Engineering is still acceptable, but this is a non-technical role. It doesn't matter when you graduated or if you are currently working towards your qualification. We just need you to be eager to apply your knowledge in a real-world setting.
  • Due to the amount of travel to our site locations, you'll need to have a valid full UK Driving License. You'll need flexibility to travel within role and throughout your rotations as required. To be eligible to apply for this role, candidates must be able to demonstrate that they will have the legal right to work in the UK for the duration of the graduate programme. If you do not currently have the right to work in the UK, or your visa is due to expire during the period of the graduate scheme, please indicate this in your application and we will consider your eligibility for visa sponsorship and whether it would be appropriate to take your application forward.
