Full Job Description

The company now has an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Scientist to join the Technical Consulting Team. While the team is based in both Swindon and Manchester, much of the work is carried out remotely, and WRc are flexible in the approach to office working.

The successful candidate will be working alongside an experienced team and will get involved with a vast array of projects predominately within the water and wastewater sector.

Working within the Technical Consulting department, depending on your skills and experience, you will support the project teams in some of the following areas:

  • The use, testing, and innovation of technology in the water sector, including the development of novel sensor systems, best practice transfer between sectors, industry networking, ICA auditing, guidance for technology developers, development of design standards for monitoring, automation and control, and technology testing, approval, and certification.

  • Supporting project work with data science and software development, providing Power BI and software development support to the wider WRc business.

  • Asset strategy, Data-driven asset management, Asset health and reliability modelling of water and gas sector infrastructure, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling of potable water storage, End-use analysis of household water consumption.

  • Hydraulic Modelling, both in Clean Water and Waste Water.

  • Water Resources Modelling

  • Demand and leakage management, calm networks

  • Pollution and flooding.

    Educated to degree level in a mathematics, scientific, geography or engineering subject

  • Highly numerate, with experience using programming languages such as Python and R.

  • Successful candidates will need to be flexible and willing to spend time in other offices. This is to gain a full understanding of new projects and different clients, which will provide fresh experiences and support your development.

  • Computer literate and demonstrably able to use Microsoft Office (Including Excel and Access).

  • Written and spoken English, having other languages is desirable

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to summarise information and explain to both technical and non-specialist audiences.

  • A Full UK Driving License is desirable but not essential.

  • You will be self - motivated, flexible, and reliable with good problem-solving skills.
