Full Job Description

The purpose of the role is to carry out structural engineering activities with a particular emphasis in conducting structural assessments, design and analysis. The role holder is primarily responsible for delivering such packages of work with some level of supervision, initially high but reducing over time as competence is gained. Additional Responsibilities:

  • Site Inspections - Undertake inspection activities for existing facilities under supervision from a SQEP Engineer. Includes photographs, measurements, documenting defects.
  • Design Data Management - Search databases to identify relevant drawings, documents and "as-built" records. Documenting items in a design basis report.
  • Calculations - Undertake structural calculations for superstructures and substructures conforming to appropriate design codes (e.g. Eurocodes and British Standards) under supervision of SQEP engineers.
  • Structural Analysis - Use of computational design tools to analyse standard structures of moderate size and complexity.
  • Stakeholder Interactions - Engage with stakeholders to define and document requirements.
  • Structural Design - Develop design concepts and design detail to meet stakeholder requirements under supervision of SQEP engineers.
  • Design Qualification - Contribute to design substantiation reports with calculations and analysis conforming to the appropriate design codes and the quality specification adopted by the lead engineer.
  • Management of Design - Manage small design work packages for self and work with assigned CAD designers or technicians.
  • Management of Implementation - Contribute to management of implementation work packages to prepare contract documents, method statements and risk assessments.
  • Expertise - Become familiar with the routine design and analyses required for design of infrastructure for Fusion Engineering Systems.
  • Documentation - Complete process documents and write technical reports.
  • Checking - Work with checkers to ensure use of appropriate methods and models.
  • Training - Work with trainers to gain knowledge of UKAEA methods and processes and develop required competencies.
  • Supervising - Work with supervisors to develop necessary skills for the role.
  • Processes - Ensure own work is completed in accordance with UKAEA processes.
