Ready to kickstart your career? Gain hands on experience on the Wates Student Engineer Management Trainee Programme. Tasks may vary from designing the air filtration system in a forensic lab, controlling the temperature in an office or engineering the floodlights in a sports stadium. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a broad and varied role within the construction and building services industry. Using the knowledge and skills you've learnt on the programme, you'll:

  • Support the project team throughout the various work phases, pre-con, design and procurement, installation, commissioning, aftercare.
  • Advise on cost-effective and energy-efficient building services solutions.
  • Draw up plans, using computer-aided design and building information modelling software.
  • Manage the design phase including the appointment and programme of an external designer.
  • Manage the installation of mechanical and electrical services.
  • Budget control, cost management and maximising value.
  • Ensure all building services meet health and safety requirements and environmental legislation.
  • Testing and commissioning the mechanical and electrical services you managed during design and installation.
  • Handover of construction projects to the client, demonstrating the installations meet required specifications.

Passionate about a career in the built environment.

  • Have a curious nature.
  • Reliable and professional.
  • A problem solver with the ability to think logically.
  • Possess good time management skills.
  • Prioritise your work to meet agreed deadlines.
  • To join our Trainee Programme via the Graduate route, you will have a motivation to learn and develop within the industry and you'll have obtained or be working towards a 2:2 degree in any subject area.
  • For our role in Manchester, you will be based in a specific location, but our projects are widespread across the North West, which will require regular travel between sites, therefore a full UK driving license will be a requirement for this location.

  • Structured learning plan (a combination of technical and behavioural development)
  • Competitive salary
  • Private medical insurance
  • Car allowance / company car scheme
