Full Job Description
Essex Wildlife Trust is the county's leading conservation charity, committed to protecting wildlife and inspiring a lifelong love of nature. By 2030 we aim to protect and connect 30% of land and sea and inspire 1 in 4 people in Essex to take action for wildlife. The Fundraising Team is integral to delivering the Trust's strategy by growing wildlife supporters and generating income to fund our vital work. As the Grants & Trusts Officer, the post holder will provide administrative and bid writing support to our growing Grants and Trusts team within the Fundraising department.
Supporting the Grants and Trusts Manager, the post-holder will manage, organise and liaise with a wider portfolio of grant-makers, from major funders to smaller family Trusts on a local, regional and national scale. Undertaking horizon-scanning of suitable funders across sectors, the Grants and Trusts Officer will use their relationship-development skills to build up our pipeline of prospects and will ensure records are kept up to date on our new CRM system. By spotting opportunities and ensuring an in-depth knowledge of Essex Wildlife Trust's activities, they will match-make funders to existing and new work, using their excellent communications skills to write compelling applications for smaller but valued funders, including developing project plans and budgets to deadlines.
The Grants and Trusts Officer will capture funding requirements, aims and objectives and will help prepare interesting, informative and accurate evaluation reports for grant-makers, being responsible for the record-keeping of grant contracts to ensure accurate information trails for auditing purposes. With a sound knowledge of the Fundraising Code of Practice and the Trust's due diligence policies, they will ensure activity is legally compliant and aligns with best practice at all times.
Other responsibilities within this role include supporting the Grants and Trusts Manager on major trust bids. The successful candidate will contribute to the open and collaborative approach to fundraising and knowledge sharing with other teams across the Trust, supporting colleagues with advice and guidance for their applications for funding with advice and guidance.
The successful candidate will have a successful track record of securing funding from Grants, Trusts and Foundations, have excellent communication, administrative and organisational skills (ideally within a similar role and/or within a charitable organisation), meticulous attention to detail and strong IT skills, particularly using Microsoft Office. A good level of GCSE Maths and English (Grade A-C/9-4) or an equivalent qualification is essential., Disability Confident
