Full Job Description

Freelancers are eligible to apply for an internal role if they are on a Worker Contract and they have worked continuously for 6 months. If they have worked for less than 6 months continuously or have a break of 3 weeks or more between engagements, they must seek Divisional HR approval to apply for an internal role prior to submitting an application.
If they are unsure which contract they are on, they can speak to their booker or the HRBP, however if it helps - both a PAYE freelance or Modus Gross contract is considered a Worker contract and covered by the Worker terms found here., The Graphic Designer, BBC Children's, reporting to the VOD Publishing Manager, is responsible for planning, researching and uploading all images intended for use on BBC Children's iPlayer pages.,

  • To plan, source, upload and publish the most eye-catching images for the BBC Children's iPlayer pages.


  • To work alongside another iPlayer Graphic Designer within BBC Children's to ensure that premium images are planned for and created to use on BBC Children's iPlayer (across all platforms).


  • To maintain the BBC Children's image library, keeping it organised, up-to-date and adhering to the correct naming conventions.


  • To work with Media Co-ordinators to ensure episodic images are received for each programme. To clearly and articulately communicate the importance and impact on audience views, whilst understanding the budgetary constraints of a Production.


  • To approve pictures as suitable for iPlayer before Executive Producer sign-off.


  • To advise Commissioning Editors / Productions where necessary

    Significant experience of using content management systems (iBroadcast/What's On) and editing tools.

  • Experience of using digital media materials effectively, in order engage an audience in a competitive media space.

  • Practiced in translating audience needs into imaginative and compelling content ideas.

  • Experience in sourcing and/or creating pictures for assigned projects

  • An experienced Adobe Creative Suite User

  • Portfolio evidence of excellent design work demonstrating creative flair

    They will work in tandem with another Graphic Designer also based within BBC Children's to ensure that every BBC Children's iPlayer asset has a premium, compelling image.
