Full Job Description

The Council has created a new position to support the In-House Green Space and Street Scene (GS&SS) Service. The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • The supervision of the GS&SS service for the council by using all available resources to provide the most cost effective and efficient service.


  • Ensuring the quality of the street scene complies with the Environmental Protection Act 1990 code of practice (litter and Refuse) and supervise the removal of fly tipping, fly posting and graffiti.


  • Supporting the service manager in providing strong leadership to create a positive customer focused culture which reflects the Council's corporate aims and vision.


  • Monitoring sub-contractors carrying out various operations throughout the Borough, such as, highways weed spraying programme, selective herbicides applications on green spaces, rural flail mowing and football pitch renovation.


  • Providing operational support with regards to the staging of major events throughout the borough.

  • Having worked in a local authority environment, in amenity horticulture or similar speciality, you will be suitably qualified. Using your knowledge, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills to organise and support the GS&SS team to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction. You will need to build strong working relationships with colleagues across the Council, the public, and key partner organisations.

    Being a team player with the ability to work on your own initiative and to meet deadlines are also requirements of the role. Having a full driving licence and being able to use computers including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook e-mail is essential., Disability Confident
