Full Job Description

As a Group Head of Aviation Engineering Standards, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This position is part of the Group Safety function and plays an integral role in supporting Babcock Group to achieve our purpose of "Creating a safe and secure world, together" by driving excellence in aviation safety management and operational activities.

Day-to-day, you'll Champion Babcock's Purpose and Principles.

  • Lead the establishment, maintenance and continuous improvement of Group-wide minimum standards for continuing airworthiness and aviation maintenance (initial and continuing airworthiness activities, including maintenance and aviation maintenance training)

  • Develop and maintain a surveillance framework to monitor continuing airworthiness and aviation maintenance performance across the Group

  • Assure Business Units meet relevant Babcock minimum standards and statutory and regulatory compliance obligations

  • Support leaders and managers within Business Units to utilise reactive and proactive learning opportunities to ensure each organisation learns from its experiences and reduces the likelihood of repeat events or surprises


  • This role is full time, 37.5 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.

    Essential experience of the Group Head of Aviation Engineering Standards:
  • Education and sound knowledge in aviation safety management principles and practices, from statutory, regulatory and operational perspectives

  • Broad operational knowledge of commercial and/or military aviation and extensive experience in the functions of the organisation (e.g., aviation safety, initial and continuing airworthiness, including maintenance, compliance and organisational management)

  • Experience of management of aviation activities at a senior level (Accountable manager or nominated person/maintenance manager or military equivalent) in relevant types of operation

  • Sound knowledge of international aviation regulatory frameworks

  • Proven leadership capability with a demonstrable track record in promoting and securing cultural improvement


  • Qualifications for the Group Head of Aviation Engineering Standards:
  • Qualified and experienced aviation engineer (Relevant degree and/or AML holder)

  • Qualified and experienced aviation accident investigator


  • Security Clearance
    The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
