Full Job Description

+ Lead and be responsible for the delivery of effective nursing for a complex group of patients and their families, ensuring compassionate and efficient care and making certain the patient is always central to the service and how it is delivered.
+ Act as part of the senior management team for the Division within the Clinical Business Unit (CBU), working closely with the Service Manager, Clinical Director, Divisional Nurse Director and Divisional Director to deliver the Trust strategy within the Division.
+ Overall responsibility for the daily operational management of the ward/day care areas (where appropriate). The post holder will look at developing new and different ways of working in order to improve the patient pathway.
+ Contribute to the relationship management of referring trusts, supporting partnership working with other organisations where appropriate.
+ Act as a professional positive role model, promoting expert clinical practice and shaping the care delivered within the wards and day care areas within Cancer Services.
+ Line manage the ward sister/charge nurse, Nurse Leads or CNS Leads and Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANP) (where appropriate) within Cancer Services, and have oversight of the resource management on the wards, including overall budget responsibility.
+ To lead on recruitment and retention strategies across their areas, including leading on, and delivering strategies in reducing the use of temporary staffing., + To provide a clear focus for nursing, giving a highly visible and authoritative presence within the units. To be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high quality care and ensuring that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery whatever the setting.
+ To work clinically for a minimum of 7.5hrs/week.
+ Oversee the day to day management of the oncology wards, working with the ward leaders, clinical nurse specialists, medical teams and administrative groups to ensure the smooth running of the clinical areas.
+ Ensure CNSs work at an advanced practice level, providing a specialist service and level of expertise in their specialist area ensure their interventions are timely and well documented.
+ Ensure CNSs' offer all relevant patients a Holistic Needs Assessment at appropriate patient milestones, be responsible for this data collection and make sure that the HNA enables the CNS to devise a personalised care plans, ensuring patient's needs are met holistically.
+ To take the lead in ensuring compliance to Trust policies and procedures within the nursing teams.
+ To lead on all governance matters for their area and to escalate any areas of concern to the Trusts Integrated Governance Committee (IGRM). Present any pertinent reports to IGRM
+ Ensure that there are systems in place that mean the provision of care takes place in a suitable and safe environment for the physical and psychological wellbeing of staff, patients\clients and their relatives. Identify clinical risks across the service and ensure that appropriate action is taken, in accordance with the Trust Risk Management policy
+ To be accountable for ensuring that Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) audit results and action plans, and quarterly feedback of alert organisms are discussed at ward/departmental/directorate level and required actions undertaken and recorded. To ensure that IPC requirements are identified in all service developments and clinical policies and procedures with appropriate feedback to the IPC Team.
+ Be responsible for the investigation of complaints, incident reports and untoward incidents within the ward areas in line with Trust framework for Clinical Governance and as part of the senior management team for the Division. This will include action plans / root cause analysis, closing the loop and reviewing trends. Ensuring all this is fed back to staff.
+ Monitor the domestic cleaning contract to clinical areas to ensure that the patient environment is clean and comfortable. Represent the nursing staff in meetings with management and contractors. Take proactive action if the domestic contract requirements are not being met.
+ Work alongside non-clinical and environmental services that impact on patient care to ensure high quality service delivery ie, catering, portering/domestic services in conjunction with the nursing team.

Flu Vaccination - What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated NMC registered individual who is an experienced and established senior nurse leader with a proven track record in management and leadership of services working with a variety of stakeholders, the integration of NHS and private care is central to a busy haematology cancer service.
As an 8b Matron in haematology we will expect you to be an outstanding clinical role model, consistently work alongside a multidisciplinary team, various external system stakeholders alongside the patients and their families' connecting colleagues and services across the organisation to ensure the safe and effective delivery of care and treatment within the Royal Marsden. The post holder will ideally have a haematology/cancer/high acuity nursing background where skills are a transferable asset to this post promoting clinical excellence and best practice.
We will expect high levels of engagement to a highly skilled team and divisional cohort of professionals across sites, while always advocating for the haematology, challenging existing practices, managing change and being both innovative and transformational.
