Full Job Description
The Haematology Outreach Service delivers specialist haematology treatment to patients within their own home. We are treat both malignant and non-malignant conditions and work hard to provide a seamless link between the hospital and community setting. Our Service allows patients to have a choice as to where they receive their treatment and it is essential that care received by patients is of the same standard as if they were to attend the hospital. We are a unique Service, and one of only a handful throughout the United Kingdom.
As joint team leader for this service, alongside clinical expertise the post holder must have a proven track record of clinical leadership. The successful candidate will be an individual with a background of working within Haematology at a senior level with experience of service development and implementing new ways of working.
The nurse specialist will also provide ongoing supervision and support, participating in the induction and training of the multi-disciplinary team. As a senior member of the team, the nurse specialist will also play a pivotal role in the operational development of their specialty. They will initiate, manage and drive change within the department, innovating changes in practice for the benefit of patient care in line with current trust and local programmes., The successful candidate will jointly lead a team of 4 nurses and 2 support workers to administer chemotherapy and other treatments to haematology patients in their own homes.
Knowledge of haematology conditions and experience of working with this patient group is essential. The post holder will need to be an experienced chemotherapy nurse with competencies in venepuncture and cannulation.
The Haematology Outreach Service visit patients independently in their homes and so an ability to work autonomously and a full driving license with access to a car for work purposes is necessary.
