Full Job Description

We are looking for a registered nurse interested in Haemoglobinopathies (Sickle Cell & Thalassemia) to join our Haematology teams cross site. As part of the sickle cell improvement programme, we are wanting to recruit an empathetic individual to join our teams, working with the sickle cell and thalassemia population across Bedfordshire. The post holder will be responsible for the ongoing development and delivery of a high-quality sickle cell and thalassemia service across the trust. They will provide nursing leadership in coordination of care across inpatient, emergency and day case services. This is an opportunity to demonstrate clinical leadership and practice at an advanced level, demonstrating autonomy and clinical decision making. You will work as a highly specialised member of the Haematology team to assist in enabling the patients to live as a productive member of society and reducing protracted inpatients stays.,

  • Working with an experienced team of specialist doctors and nurses across Bedfordshire to deliver and develop a high quality, patient focussed Haemoglobinopathy service
  • Provide care and support to individuals and families with sickle cell disease and thalassaemia
  • Contribute and work in partnership with the HCC (Haemoglobinopathy Coordinating Centre) network, working groups and other colleagues to enhance delivery of care
  • Provide education to service users and their families regarding their disease
  • Provide teaching and training on Haemoglobinopathies to the wider team and trust
  • Demonstrate knowledge on Haemoglobinopathies and be willing to learn or expand on expertise in this area
  • Support the ongoing development of the apheresis project, working in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Once the apheresis project is set up, ensure nursing related pathways, protocols and training is in place, leading to provision of a gold standard service.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and colleagues ensuring an individualised and equitable approach to all
  • Act as a key worker to those patients with Haemoglobinopathies
  • Support and assist in the implementation of nurse led clinics, monitoring patients with Haemoglobinpathies appropriately
