Full Job Description

We require a Handy Person who can support the Hub Manager to meet the requirements of the Children's Homes Regulations 2015, including the Quality Standards, in relation to maintaining high standards in the physical environment of the Hub and the Edge of Care Office.

The Handy Person will be responsible for undertaking such repairs of a minor nature, as may be required by the Hub Manager or their nominated representative.

This requirement will be confirmed within the general competence and experience of the post holder although, the exact nature of the work cannot be specified, and the work will be that of general Handy Person and not be a substitute for the employment of trained and qualified crafts persons. It would therefore be reasonable for a Handy Person to undertake minor repairs either completely or as an instant remedy, whilst awaiting the attendance of a trained and qualified crafts person.

Minor repairs would include, patch plastering, painting, basic joinery and general maintenance ensuring the Hub is in good order and homely at all times, by identifying routine maintenance and arranging the necessary repairs if outside of the competence of the Handy Person.

The role also includes ensuring the general good order of the exterior including grounds and to ensure safe access to and from the premises particularly in the event of adverse weather.

The monitoring of Health & Safety is a key task of the Handy Person and they will be responsible for carrying out the regular monitoring of systems and equipment, such as Fire Alarm Systems and associated equipment and ensuring that the necessary certification is in place and is reviewed as per the current guidance and regulations.

We require an individual who can show commitment, flexibility and a general understanding of children and young people who may have complex needs and difficulties.
