Full Job Description

We are looking for a Hansard Reporter to join Hansard at the House of Lords. This is a part-time position for two days a week and every other Friday. Hansard reporters’ working hours are tied closely to the sitting hours of the House of Lords, so the successful candidate should expect to work unsociable hours as required. A late duty allowance is paid to reflect this., + Reporters produce a substantially verbatim report of parliamentary proceedings in the Chamber, Grand Committee and Select Committees, using a digital audio recording, in accordance with Hansard’s terms of reference in Erskine May and our performance criteria and editing guidelines.
+ Reporters are responsible for logging proceedings in the Chamber, Grand Committee and Select Committees.
+ Reporters proof-read as required and line-manage and support variable hours staff.

In this position you will report proceedings of the House of Lords, including the Chamber, Grand Committee and Select Committees. You will need good attention to detail, excellent written communication skills and the ability to articulate complex arguments clearly and in their political context.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with relevant editorial experience, who has an interest in current affairs, enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and can work well as part of a wider team. This is an opportunity to work on-site on the Parliamentary Estate, a UNESCO World Heritage site., + Communication and editorial skills: Excellent command of the English language, including the ability to write clearly and accurately. Relevant editorial experience, ideally of parliamentary reporting or in a comparable context, would be a significant advantage.
+ Reporting skills: Ability to comprehend and report complex arguments in their political context.
+ Collaboration and teamwork: Experience of working effectively with others, including challenging, guiding and advocating where necessary, adapting effectively to a range of situations, individuals or groups.
+ Delivering at pace: Ability to work quickly and dependably under pressure while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
+ Interest in current affairs: Broad general knowledge and a keen interest in current affairs.
+ Willingness to work unsocial hours: A Late Duty allowance of £1,502 per annum is payable for this requirement.
