Full Job Description

We are seeking maternity cover for the post of Research Manager at the Havens. Responsibilities of the post include overseeing and coordinating the delivery of the Havens' research and service evaluation portfolio. The role involves commissioning and overseeing research activity across three Havens sites, from grant stage through to successful completion. The post holder will provide strategic leadership on the scoping of grants and ensures that the Havens meets funding terms and conditions. The role will involve contributing to the efficient and effective delivery of research-related events, conferences, and continuous professional development., Research and Havens-wide Coordination
· Oversee the development and delivery of research-related policies and strategies such as procedures for study design, recruitment, data collection, analysis and dissemination
· Review and assess the quality of study protocols and provide guidance on ethics procedures
· Ensure that all research activity is in line with Trust policy and that confidentiality in the management of data is compliant with the Data Protection Act and any other relevant legislation
· Manage issues and problems arising from recruitment and retention, study deliverables and participant feedback
· Provide leadership on quantitative and qualitative methods, advising and supporting clinical and non-clinical study teams as needed
· Oversee and ensure relevant reports are provided to stakeholders, grant funders, clinical research networks and project partners
· Effectively maintain and manage records of current and past research projects, communicating regularly with project leads including around project close down
· Write and review final reports and journal articles
· Oversee and manage communication with clinical and non-clinical research networks
· Build and maintain relationships with survivors' groups, service users, voluntary organisations, and academic partners
· Provide day to day line management of research assistants, students and/or trainee doctors
· Responsible for the management of the project budgets and resources, including reporting to the Service Manager
Education and Training
· Contribute to project publications with internal and external partners
· Create and deliver presentations on Havens research at conferences and events
· Deliver research-related workshops to Havens staff as part of their continuous professional development
· Participate in the development of a research section on the Havens website and lead on the design of publicly available materials
· Provide leadership on dissemination events and public engagement with the Havens research portfolio
· Support the training of junior research staff where necessary
· Prepare quarterly reports for the Havens Education Audit Research Training meeting
· Contribute to the planning and organisation of research-related events, conferences and continuous professional development mornings
· Identify opportunities for learning and development and invite relevant speakers to present research findings to Havens staff
People Management and Performance
+ Lead, coach and manage the performance of the team in line with good people management practices. Ensuring excellence is recognised and underperformance is addressed.
+ Participate in regular performance appraisal meetings and ensure each member of the team has a clear set of objectives and development plans.
+ Ensure the team is compliance with all statutory, mandatory training together with any professional training requirements, ensuring they are up to date and fully compliant.
+ Manage team absences including sickness in line with Trust policy ensuring the appropriate return to work meetings occur, e-roster is updated and productivity is at keep to the highest possible level.
+ Identify and fill any vacancies that arise within the team in line with the Trust's recruitment policy and process.
+ Identify talent and support the internal talent management process in order attract and retain and succession plan for your people.
+ Review skills mix at regular intervals in order to identify any potential opportunities to maximise resource utilisation / allocation, ensuring job descriptions are kept up to date.
+ Ensure overall wellbeing of the team is maintained. Continuously support in improving the morale of the team and implementing a culture of zero-tolerance for bullying and harassment.

+ The post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and wellbeing and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with this post.

Candidates should be educated to degree level with previous experience of designing and delivering research projects in a health-related discipline and providing strategic administrative and strategic leadership within an academic research setting. They should also have excellent communication skills and personal qualities that are needed to work with a multi disciplinary team.
