Full Job Description

The post holder will be responsible for reviewing scoping the existing patient centred cancer pathway with support from the current Head and Neck Cancer CNS team .

The post holder will be responsible for giving advice and education to patients diagnosed with Head & Neck skin cancer. This will include supporting patients undergoing complex reconstructive surgical procedures and specialist wound care;

supporting patients undergoing radical and palliative Oncology treatments and liaising with primary care as appropriate.

The post holder will be motivated to deliver high quality care and be dedicated to developing practice to meet the needs of patients with Head and Neck skin cancers.

You will be expected to develop and demonstrate a high level of autonomy, excellent communication skills and the ability to work proactively within a busy multi-disciplinary team in a supportive environment.

As a Macmillan Head and Neck Skin Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist, the post holder will be responsible for

Scoping the existing needs of those diagnosed with head & neck skin cancer that require reconstructive surgery, radical radiotherapy or a combination of both treatment modalities, and develop a new patient centred cancer pathway with support from the current CNS teams.

Giving advice and education to patients diagnosed with Head & Neck skin cancer. This will include supporting patients undergoing complex surgical procedures / skin grafts via the in-patient ward;

specialist wound clinics, and liaising with primary care as appropriate. And also support patients undergoing curative / palliative radiotherapy to the head & neck, as well as those with metastatic disease.

Working closely with the speech and language therapists, dietitians, tissue viability, palliative care team, ENT nurse practitioners, dental practitioners, general practitioners and colleagues within the Head & Neck / Skin Multidisciplinary team (MDT), as well as administrative staff to help facilitate a timely cancer pathway.

Utilising skills of clinical expertise, leadership, education and management to ensure a seamless service for patients, carers and staff.

They will provide advice, support and information from the time of diagnosis and throughout care pathway.
