Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the ENT outpatient department for a Band 6 head and neck clinical nurse specialist.The role involves establishing new nurse led services and clinical pathways as well as working within established nurse led virtual and face-to-face clinics. You will be expected to provide ward-based support under the direction of the manager.The role also involves supporting with 2-week wait (suspected cancer) pre visit planning clinics. There will be significant direct interaction with consultants and opportunities to develop specific procedural skills like head and neck examinations and supervised pharyngolaryngeal endoscopy.We are looking at recruiting an enthusiastic, dedicated, patient focused, innovative registered nurse who is committed to providing the highest standards of nursing care to our patients.You will be required to work closely alongside the Band 7 Nurse Specialist and the wider MDT.The Head and Neck team is a welcoming team and has a great
working environment. Ensuring that staff are well supported and encouraged to develop further both individually and professionally.We have a close working relationship with many Departments and specialities within NUH and well-developed links with local trusts.We encourage staff to attend conferences and training, bringing back shared learning to empower staff and enhance the quality of patient care.We welcome insight visits., Working within the nurse led service and assisting in the running of the following clinics; Long term thyroid cancer follow up, Head and neck nurse follow up, Post-operative calcium monitoring, Pre visit neck lump telephone clinic and benign histology clinic. The role also requires taking calls from the Nurse Advice line, blood results monitoring as well as running clinics alongside the head and neck consultants reviewing patients face to face.o Review patients on the ward following thyroidectomy surgery and provide support during inpatient stay and following surgery.o To support with setting up new nurse led services and pathways within ENT.o Must be able to work independently as well as alongside a clinician, working as an integral member of the MDT Head and Neck Cancer service. Post holder must be able to work with and liase with staff outside of the MDT (Endocrine, Metabolic medicine).o Taking incoming calls from patients, carers, GP's providing advice and support over the telephone,
signposting, safety netting and trouble shootingo Presenting patients at the thyroid MDT
